Unfortunately nursery retailers such as Northroy in North Fitzroy continue to source Ryset netting that fingers can go through and that will entangle and kill flying foxes (the colony is only 3 ks away). Over 300 hard rescues are undertaken each year from unsafe netting in Melb alone. Animals require a long period of care or euthanasia. A small percentage can be release after a week or so. All this is very labour intensive, expensive and heart rending. Often netted trees contain inedible and old fruit adding anger to sadness. People go on holidays and leave trees netted. In one net 22 dead rainbow lorikeets were found. Please Ryset reduce the aperture of your fruit tree netting to 5mm or less and supply retailers with more wildlife safe products like fruit bags and socks. Thank you.

Ryset is reviewing its netting and has made a commitment to shift towards wildlife safer products including netting with small aperture holes (fingers can't pass through) for domestic netting purposes. Thanks Ryset for being a good corporate citizen and helping us reducing the number of flying foxes and other animals we rescue from unsafe nets in Victoria each year (more than 500 per annum).
