Virtual School Victoria
Just awful. I have had various experiences here. I spent some time there as a student full-time. I left due to the poor standards, but later enrolled again to study a subject my in-person school didn't offer.Of course there were exceptions, but the level of unprofessional behaviour was shocking. For example, during online English classes, very little teaching occurred. Teachers were distracted, derailed by students joking in the chat, and joked amongst themselves instead of teaching. During one lesson, they spent the entire hour joking about a comic, which they linked to in the chat, whose humour was not at all appropriate for our age group, instead of teaching.Course content was filled with typos, grammatical errors, formatting errors, or consisted of slabs of text copied-and-pasted from the internet or from textbooks. I essentially had to teach myself.Later, when I completed a VCE subject with them, unprofessional behaviour from a different teacher continued during online classes. This was extremely frustrating as I was simply trying to learn, but he would derail classes with humour and jokes.Once again, course content frequently consisted of slabs of texts copied and pasted from Wikipedia, other online reference sites, or the textbook. Often, course pages were unfinished, so I could not complete that week's work because it literally had not been uploaded yet.Feedback was slow and rare to the point of being almost non-existent. For example, I received feedback on assessments completed at the start of the year at the very end of the year.Despite a messaging system being in place, my questions were answered extremely slowly, often weeks after I had asked them, to the point where, when the question related to an upcoming assessment, the answer was no longer useful as the assessment had already occurred.Instructions for how to assessments were even supposed to be completed or assessed were almost non-existent. We were simply told when they would occur. It is possible to still do well if you do a subject with them. I certainly did. However, I had to essentially teach myself. I also hired a family friend, who had completed the subject, as a tutor. He taught me any content which I could not teach myself, answered questions, and gave feedback past assessments and on practice assessments I had completed. Essentially, he fulfilled the role my teachers should have been doing. If you must complete a subject with the VSV, you can still succeed. Just hire a good tutor and be prepared to teach yourself. The VSV itself serves as little more than an administrator of assessments and a way to certify that you completed the subject.

I have found VSV to be just what I needed. Coming from a homeschooled background, VSV is not very different to what I know. I appreciate the flexibility and understanding of staff.Learning at VSV requires large amounts of discipline. You must be able to study on your own, know when to ask for help and be able to persistently ask until you understand. You must also not be afraid to go against and cross your teachers if the need be (and it's appropriate) Due to the distance, it can be very hard for staff to see what is happening in your life and why you are saying what you are. Therefore on occasion you have to go against their advice. As with every other school, there can be issues while you learn the system and the teachers learn you, especially as it is very different to a brick-and-mortar school. Overall I would recommend VSV.

sorry but i under absolutely no circumstances recommend this school to anyone, i am personally currently in the midst of completing a unit 3/4 subject through this school due to my school not offering the subject, here are a few issues i have with the school...-There has not been A SINGLE MEETING since the start of the year, where we were assured we'd have at the very least one every fortnight, this alongside the fact that observations for completion of a SAT are required and we have no way to do so because the teacher doesn't schedule meetings- The curriculum seems to be simply a copy paste of last years, with not even the due dates being changed until after it is actually supposed to be due- Assessments do not follow VCAA guidelines-so so so much morePlease save yourself the trouble of attending the school unless you ABSOLUTELY HAVE to.

Alright school. Teachers expect you to do tones of work, it took ages to actually get them to understand what I wanted to do and wanted to achieve. Teachers don't do anything about bullies. Super hard to communicate to teachers, but it has a good idea of what it should be, it's just not build up enough for it to work. Teachers didn't care about my situation and wouldn't do anything to make it was for me. Teachers discriminated me and then kicked me out without supporting me whatsoever. Met some great people thought. But if teachers actually did something about bullying I wouldn't have lost so many friends.

It's a lovely school - the staff and SRC are amazing! I was able to swap teachers when the one I had wasn't working for me. If you are struggling - reach out to your Learning Advisor and you'll have a great experience at VSV!

(I'm writing this on a throwaway email for my privacy)I do NOT recommend this school. The amount of work they give to you is absolutely staggering and they force you to meet unrealistic expectations.>7+ hours per day on one subject assignment (not including study or online classes, just the coursework)>Complaining about it leaves you being dehumanised by learning advisors and teachers, calling you inadequate in sugarcoated words.>No hope of catching up because the work will always pile up.I used to be a top student at this school but was quickly burnt out by the workload. Now I can't even think about it without a panic attack. If you suffer from mental illness, chronic illness, disabilities or you want 1-2 hours for extracurricular activities or leisure time then don't go to this school. Other students I've spoken to have expressed feeling trapped at this school, purely because of the workload.

I went to a normal" high school up until this year. Due to health I moved to VSV and it's SO MUCH better.I don't have 100+ appointments squeezed into holidays and can actually try to get ahead or even have a break. Some teachers can be alittle difficult with communication

The student below me in reviews (HRH Dj Stewart) lost all his friends because he started several targeted harassment campaigns against various people and pestered people to do his schoolwork for him, not because the teachers didn't do anything about bullying. VCE units are of very poor quality and whilst the teachers care about your learning, the infrastructure that is used is suboptimal. Compared to the uni I am currently at, the LMS is very poor.

A very supportive community, and have found my introduction to VSV to be smooth and worry free. Huge thanks to all the people that make this possible.
