Fed Square
Federation Square is an interesting architectural artistic spot in Melbourne opposite Flinders Street train station. OK forget walking about it in high heels or crutches or moving around it in a wheelchair but aside from that.....yes visit. One of the best restaurants I have been to, Taxi Kitchen, is there and you can also visit ACMI for their latest exhibition, watch an event on the giant TV, eat at one of the many restaurants, visit the NGV pop up or just wander around. Lots to see and do.

Beautiful place to take a break, have a coffee or just enjoy the modern Melbourne beauty of fed square. There are bathrooms, trains close by and shops in a centralized part of the city.

Amazing place to just sit and admire the city. The place often hosts events, open air movies. It’s lovely around Christmas.

The project for Federation Square incorporates the design of a new civic square for melbourne, capable of accommodating up to 35,000 people in an open-air amphitheatre, with cultural and commercial buildings as part of the precinct. The cultural and commercial facilities combine for almost 44,000 m2. They include new galleries for the national gallery of Victoria: australian art and the australian centre for the moving image, as well as facilities for SBS radio and television, and numerous restaurants and cafes existing on a site of 3.6ha, equivalent to the construction of a new city block for Melbourne. The civic plaza of Federation Square (7,500 m2 & external landscaping 10,000 m2) has been programmed to providethe new civic heart for Melbourne. The plaza, and federation square in general have been developed as the locus and orientation point for Melbournians and for regional and international visitors alike. The plaza has been developed to operate as a compound spatial figure, with multiple points of activity and focus. At the same time it can operate as a single activity space, focused towards the stage and large video screen. The plaza is a key for the entire project, establishing precise and varying relationships with the acknowledged diverse context of the city, the landscape around the site as well as those buildings within it.Federation Square is the creation of a new urban order on a site that never before existed. more than just a new set ofbuildings, federation square is the new centre of cultural activity for melbourne. fulfilling the long held dream for a large, open public gathering space in melbourne, Federation Square has given the citizens of Victoria an authentic civic destination. In the true spirit of federation, this design brings together distinct elements and activities that form a complex ensemble based upon the collective and the unique.Within an architecture of difference and coherence, the design has brought together disparate institutions and allowed their true differences to be registered in the developed geometries, while also maintaining a visual and formal coherence across the site. Importantly, the design sought to produce a cultural and civic precinct based on permeability, allowing for the interaction of visitors, precinct workers and the passerby.Federation square is the re-affirmation of the original interactive nature of civic existence. Rather than a closed enclave of controlled and regulated activities, this project creates a network of animated, emotive and enlightening experiences. Federation Square has integrated a broad range of civic, cultural and commercial activities, responding to the vitality and openness of daily life.Since the project has opened, Federation Square has exceeded all expectations to become one of australia’s biggest tourist destinations welcoming over 20 million visitors. Federation square has become the new centre - the new social, political and cultural heart of Melbourne.

Fed Square
Worth a walk through, or a longer linger, if you wish to visit a museum, gallery, cafe or bar. The architecture is intriguing and modern. The large, fixed public television screen, digital facade, which livestreams sports and broadcasts news and major sporting events, is apparently the biggest broadcasting screen in Australia. There are areas and seats to sit and relax.

Fed Square
Located just opposite Flinders Street rail station, Federation Square is touted as one of the must-visit spaces in Melbourne, but personally I feel that it's a little overrated. It functions mainly as a busy open plaza space with some cafes and shops surrounding it, but aside from those, there's nothing that really stood out for me.Maybe I was visiting at the wrong time or I'm just the wrong target audience. You can still take a walk to this place and just have a look if you're at Flinders Street, but don't expect anything extraordinary.

There are always something happening at Fed Square. Sports events on the big screen or singing and dancing on the stage. This week there is the 'Rising' event in Melbourne and there is a light show at night till 10 June. There is the ice skating rink down by the river and across at St Paul Cathedral, there is also a show like an 'animated moving wall' and at the Melbourne Concert Hall, colourful projections on the wall.

Very nice, easy to navigate around. Plenty to see and do, plenty of food and social venues. ACMI in the SBS building was great.

Fed Square
Great outdoor space for catching up with friends and family. They also host a range of international festivals. Fed Square is just across the road from Flinders Street Station. There are a few toilets at Federation Square. The most convenient one is the one next to 7-11.
