“Charred and Clubbed” 2/6/23 dinnerDarwin Club (sister restaurant of Char at Admiralty House) is supposed to be an “experience” - not an unsatisfactory experience leaving a bitter taste.A special dinner with my wife started well with a beautiful lobster entree and Hunter Valley Semillon but …They served the wrong main course with a choice of “take it or wait 20 minutes” all while my wife ate hers.Having accepted the meal I hadn’t ordered there was no effort to make good other than “sorry”.We all make mistakes but what sets us apart is how we take ownership and make good. When I raised the lack of effort to make good and asked to speak with management, I was told the Manager was too busy - presumably matching orders with plates in the kitchen. We immediately cancelled our forthcoming reservation at Char .

From starter to mains, the food was fantastic. Wagyu was perfect as was the gnocchi dish. The wine by the glass" list is generous and several excellent choices to pair off the menu. Ambience was quite chilled out and the staff were attentive and en point (impressive considering they had quite a large number of walk ins). The dining experience left a hole in our wallet

We were excited to go here but was quite disappointed. Cocktails great. Wine list great. Desert great. Menu great. My entree of octopus was inedible. Tough as leather and couldn’t cut it. Advised waiter and he apologised but I would have thought it should be removed from the bill. We both had the same main which was $65 and was reasonable but definitely not worth that price. Service started well but once food came out we were left waiting for ages to get our entree plates removed and even longer for our bottle of wine to arrive. When we got the bill we noticed the wine was missing so advised them which they thanked us for but didn’t remove the inedible entree. Bill of $425 for two people and we deserve better. They seemed surprised when we said no to a tip. Wouldn’t recommend going here.

Sadly I can't give this restaurant the accolades the food warranted due to poor experience with ambience and staff. Guests in private room so loud and drunk that we could have been in a public bar on Mitchell Street. After asking staff to try to quieten down the room, the atmosphere worsened with even louder behaviour and jeering. Nothing the staff were responsible for and many apologies offered but definitely not a fine dining experience. What spoilt the night was our request to move to a quiet area downstairs after our entree course was met with a lie (there is no room downstairs when there was plenty of empty tables) and then finally a move downstairs after we insisted. We watched our mains sit on the bar upstairs as we were moved, then after being seated had to wave down staff to ask for water and a wine list so we could have something to drink with our meal. Then we had someone attempt to serve us one of our entrees (already consumed upstairs) and then another staff member bring us both of our main meals (after we had finished our mains). No communication or organisation from staff or managers on a Thursday night that was not incredibly busy. Very disappointing and would not recommend if you want a fine dining experience or have a special occasion to celebrate and want to guarantee that it is not ruined by other guests. Sad because our dishes were generous serves ad exceptional flavour but overall, not worth the expense or aggravation. Only spoiler on what has otherwise been a fantastic holiday in Darwin.

We made this reservation 6 weeks in advance to find that 4 of the mains options were unavailable. The billionaire oysters did not have Yarra valley salmon caviar. They used the sushi flying fish option and even then some of the oysters didn't have that. The trout dish was inedible - if you're going to go to the trouble to cook a 63 degree egg then it needs to be spot on. It wasn't. Very vinegary meal. No sea vegetables. Our friends were also disappointed in their meals for various reasons but previously they had had great food experiences.Maybe a different chef, maybe hard to get products but you shouldn't charge the same prices. The wait staff were lovely.

Went here for dinner to celebrate our wedding anniversary and we were not disappointed. The service was excellent, the food delicious and the wine list comprehensive. They even managed to cook something special for our young daughter. We will definitely go back.

Love the the dessert, it's almost the best dessert I've ever had. Mocktails are really nice(but I hate paper straw). Seafood chowder is ok. Kingfish was a little bit dry as it's roasted, fair enough, but would be better if go with some sauce. The mushroom in the kingfish is surprisingly tasty, like it! Mash wasn't the best today, too dry I don't know why, couldn't finish half. Overall is good(still expensive), decent service.
