Altona Bay Fish and Chips
This is the real deal. I have been living in the US for the last 12 years and crave Melbourne fish and chips. Real flake, freshly made potato cakes, dim sims and of course perfectly cooked and seasoned chips. I had done a little research. I needed a big rating on Google to go, I needed real flake not hake and all the other subs….the real thing. This is going to sound terrible I needed to find someone that knew what they were doing. I needed the perfect batter, I needed really fresh flake inside that batter. There is nothing like it.So the absolute truth is it was worth the 12 year wait. Food was perfection but more importantly this family run business consisted of the very nicest people, the nicest. So happy to have found them as were my colleagues. The original Melbourne fish and chip shop.I visited again when I flew into Melbourne in October. This place is what 10’s of thousands of Aussie in the US are dreaming about. Real chips not fries, potato cakes that stand by themselves, real flake-repeat real flake,,,,,this is it……I’ll be back in January.

So good! Friendliest service, prompt, reasonably well priced & their fish was perfectly cooked, not overly greasy.2min drive from the beach. Would highly recommend you stop by especially if you’re not from the area.

Lovely friendly people. Shop is spotless. Amazing what they have done with it since the previous owner. Potato cakes and other items are home made and extremely fresh. Definitely changing my current fish n chip shop to Altona Bay.

An amazing gem of a place, amazing atmosphere and super friendly staff! Old school style place with amazing food chips are great! Fish is fresh hot and tasty! Thanks for the meal and friendly staff! Also my son loved the fish on the front window!!
