Take a detour off the Manly to spit bridge walk to see a qaint lighthouse and a different view of the harbour and Balmoral Beach. The sidetrack will take an extra 40 mins both ways if you include the charming cliff beach sidetrack. The track is very not really maintained and will require some minor scrambling. If wet it could be difficult. Bush and trees will likely scrape your legs. A much quieter track with enough points of interest to make it worthwhile.

Started this walk at Castle Rock beach. Beautiful and little lighthouse! Once you walk down you can (if you’re brave and whiling) climb down the rocks to see a old building of some sort. Don’t forget to check out Washaway beach on the way back up.

Absolute disappointment, the path is to this light house is equal to a difficult bush-walk and need proper footwear otherwise your shoes get muddy and wet. After a good 20 min up and down in bush you get to this spot which doesn’t worth it at all. There is no view or a place to chill and getting ready to go back.Absolute bummer. The fence around light house is also locked so you can’t even get to the turf.

Great view.Nice to little hike through some less maintained bush. It was very quiet today on this track while the main Manly to Spit walk was filled with people

Went just before sunset which turned out a good time to go as its a nice view and easy walk there and back before dark. It's a surprisingly wild area there were many kookaburra and even a few wallabies! There is a fork in the path to a beach so will look forward to checking that out next time and spending a bit more time. Didn't see anyone else on the track, was a nice little escape in to nature.

Sydney, BalgowlahFinally made it to the grotto. Similar difficulty to a normal bushwalk. Interesting views looking back towards Balmoral and also out towards the head. Lighthouse was a little disappointing. Better panoramic view from the lookout less than 1 km away

Google map said 13 mins walk from Castle Rock beach but it took 40mins because the walking track was really wet and muddy after thunderstorms. It’s not a quick walk like you see on the map but it’s nice, I enjoyed it.

A good spot to visit but be careful if you're with young children as there are some cliffs.

The walk to Grotto Point Lighthouse from Clontarf Reserve is delightful . I did this walk on a hot summers day in February 2019. It's a casual two hour return walk. With many pretty harbour scenes and wild flowers . But you do need to be energetic and wearing good quality walking boots or runners & take a bottle of water . Do not underestimate this track as it is rough in places . I saw one person trip over a rock and sprain their ankle . There is no sign designating the track which leads down to the Lighthouse. I used my Google Maps GPS to guide me. It's a narrow lonely track and quite steep for the last 50 metres down to Grotto Point. Very few people walk down to the Lighthouse hence its quiet and solitary. The view is fabulous . The main track from Clontarf Reserve to Manly is extremely popular on weekends with at least 500 people doing the walk while I was there. So if you are a slow walker move to the side and let the faster move past. If you do this walk after heavy rainfall you will see the creeks and waterfalls flowing , making it extra special. The walk is not suitable for old and infirm nor kids under 10.
