Effie's Fish and Chips
Tried out Effies fish and chips last night. Fish cooked well and still juicy considering it appeared only lightly crumbed rather than battered. Fresh calamari was huge and also cooked well. Overall food was fresh hot and delicious. Shop owner was very passionate about his food which showed in the quality and presentation of the food.

Souvlaki was ok, meat was mostly meat but with gristly bits. Basic salad stuff. The tzatziki was nice. That's about where the reasonable experience ended though, the potato cakes and fried dimmies were over cooked and I don't know what fat they use but it's a bit sour. Binned them.

Gave this place a go only once. And only because our local is closed on a Monday. What a disappointment. So expensive. Much more expensive than our local. $5 minimum chips. Our local is $3.50 for a bucket load and crispy and fresh!! These were the worst I've ever had. I threw all of the chips in the bin. Soggy potato cakes not crispy like my local. I saw my money go into the bin literally! ! And a dry old piece of flake. Won't ever go back.

Over priced and disappointing. The burgers were sloppy, the heel fell apart and lettuce was soggy. Good thing there's 2 other chip shops in town as i won't be going back.

Found this place on the off chance..Gotta say pretty impressive ..found it really cheap...the for 1 pack "..will feed 2 people..friendly service ...grab a bite from them go to the park and watch puffing Billy go by. .all in all extremely good value for money...will definitely be returning thanks for a good meal..."

BEWARE! This is easily the worst fish and chips I have ever had. I understand people might have a bad day, but really, this was beyond bad day stuff. Really really soggy brown chips, dry, hard fish, and the burger (if you can call it that) was a soggy mess! There was hardly any meat in the patty, it was mostly breadcrumbs or filler...no salad in the burger, just some limp brown shredded lettuce. I don't usually write reviews but I was so astonished at quality I felt I had to warn people. There are not many options, but please, go ANYWHERE ELSE!!!

This bloke has been doing fish and chips in this area for a very long time, and he's good at what he does, he seems to be getting a bit tired though, but he's still plodding along making reasonable fish and chips, they aren't fantastic fish and chi[s, but they're usually pretty good. Sometimes the chips are a little bit dry but the fish is always good, and he's always up for a good chat and has good car magazines to read while the food is cooking
