Well presented history of Cook's time in the area on the Endeavour and their interactions with local Aboriginal owners. Also covered the gold rush, Cooktown's role as a port on the inner passage and the story of the building hosting the museum. Seeing the anchor and cannon from the Endeavour was pretty special. Opening hours are shorter until peak season (closes 2ish).

Visited the museum in 2014 - wasn't as good this time, unfortunately. Currently undergoing development by the National Trust which may have been why. Still worth visiting though. It gets hot inside, especially upstairs, so be prepared.

Museum awesome! We were pretty upset with the way the staff treated a young mum and her kids asking about viewing times etc. Very rude and pretentious. We left without purchasing any gift shop products due to the interaction.I do recommend viewing the museum!

There is a fee for entering this museum.During my recent visit to Cooktown, I had the opportunity to explore the Cooktown Museum, and it proved to be an enriching and fascinating experience. The museum showcases the rich history and cultural heritage of this vibrant Australian town. Here is my review of the Cooktown Museum:First and foremost, the Cooktown Museum provides a comprehensive and engaging portrayal of the town's history. From its early Indigenous inhabitants to its role in Captain James Cook's voyage and the gold rush era, the exhibits cover a wide range of historical periods. The museum utilizes a combination of artifacts, photographs, interactive displays, and audiovisual presentations to bring the stories to life. It's evident that a lot of effort has been put into curating the exhibits, making it a valuable educational resource.

Lovely building, the museum was a bit ho hum. $50 a couple to get in was way over priced. We would not pay that if we knew what it was like beforehand. The Anchor from the Endevour was the hilight for me.
