Really disappointed that the system of ordering via a QR code from our table is still in place now that the Covid restrictions have been relaxed for months. It’s really impersonal - felt like the service was non-existent, and the table of older patrons next to us were really struggling with the technology, but still had to order online. It felt like we wasted our time going out for dinner, as part of the appeal is to be guided by the waitstaff on meal choices & portions, not sit in isolation ordering online. Shame as the food is authentic.

A total joke!We ordered takeaway online (site said it was open). Our credit card details were processed, went down to Newport to collect and it was all closed up. No sign of when it would be open. It looked like it hasn't been open in months - avoid!

When ordering online, said it would be 25 minutes and then was updated to 1 hour. When I arrived the food was not ready. I ordered the Teriyaki vegetables that were insufficiently sealed within their container and leaked through the bag. When ordering there was no mention of rice so I ordered addition rice only to find that the Teriyaki vegetables already came with rice. When I contacted Umami for a refund they refused and said that they fulfilled my order as requested. Terrible service. Never order takeaway from here.

Umami is an awesome little Gem to find in our local.The food is fresh and fantastic and they really looked after us with many vegan choices. It's not always the case that a restaurant will take care of us as vegans, and we always appreciate it when they do.We loved the food and people were lovely. We had a quick chat with the chef when we were leaving and he was lovely and welcoming. We'll definitely return to Umami.

As locals we have eaten at &/or ordered from Umami numerous times. Food is tasty service is friendly BUT had a home delivery tonight that was I feel a total rip off - so disappointed- paid $29 for an up sized LARGE sashimi- large? No way! I could have fitted the entire meal into two egg cups. Phoned to question if they made a mistake as they did forget other parts of the order & was told sorry that IS a large. Again disappointing but we can no longer support this restaurant.

After waiting an hour and a quarter for my food to be delivered I called the restaurant to enquire if they had received my order as I'd ordered through Menulog. I received a nonchalant reply to the effect that the order was in front of the person who answered the phone.As for the food, it was totally underwhelming. The spicy chicken wings were nice but definitely not spicy. The Katsu Chicken was okay but the beef with noodles was not.The good reviews I have read for this restaurant are all eat in. I would suggest never getting takeaway as no care is taken to ensure the food is good.Never again.

All the dressings and sauces pretty much tastes the same, even the salad dressing, very sweet.Run down restaurant needs updating.Unfortunately would not recommend.

DO NOT order from here on Uber eats. We have ordered here twice for our babysitter on a Saturday night and the order was cancelled 30 minutes after it was made.
