Tom Roberts grave

Despite being one of Australia's most famous painters, Tom Roberts' grave appears to be rarely visited. The Longford information centre at JJ's bakery gave us a map of where to find the gravesite, and the same information is also available on a permanent sign in the park in the centre of Longford. The grave is 7km outside of Longford in the old cemetery beside the Christ Church Illawarra, on a hilltop about 500m up a gravel driveway from the highway. Tom Roberts' grave is not marked in any special way other than with a small headstone - in fact, we had to find it by a process of elimination, hunting among all the graves in the small cemetery. It was nice to find an information sign about Tom Roberts posted just outside the cemetery gates. Rest in peace, Tom. Many of us still enjoy your art, all these many years later. I hope more people will take the time to visit, and reflect on their own experience of Tom Roberts' art.
