Ideal Stairs & Handrails

When I moved into a new house with no handrail on the stair I needed to get something put up quickly.The service was great. The install was tricky with steel studs rather than timber studs and one small section was battened rather than studs.Nothing was a problem and once they got the extra parts they needed to fit it properly, I could not be happier with the result.

Highly recommend, We ordered a steel mono stair through these guys and got exactly what I imagined and more. The workers and installer did an amazing job. What a credit this company is. Thanks Ideal very happy.

Appalling customer service. I called this company for a stair rail quote months ago. The salesmen came and was very helpful and sent quote. I called back the salesman to book the job. He took my instructions, did a final measure and took samples of the colour from me and I chose the design I wanted. I never heard back for months. I rang their office several times, and then finally got told they don't want to do the job anymore as they are too busy. They left me hang out to dry for months thinking they were sourcing the colour. This is not how good businesses treat people. This company never had any intention of doing job and couldn't even send a polite email to advise me. Beware this business is unprofessional and evasive. Go elsewhere!

Do not contemplate using ideal stairs.I am close to completing a 7 month renovation where ideal stairs account for ~1% of my spend yet have accounted for ~95% aggravation, frustration, issues and shoddy/poor quality work with ZERO customer service.Ideal stairs admit that they have good and not very good installers – and “not everyone can get the good ones”. I got (I guess??) their worst installer – who the company admits “has a lot of problems” – yet they continue to use him and send him to people’s homes (rude, abusive, swears and wilfully damages property and does very shoddy work).The bottom of flight took 3 installations across more than 10 visits (spread across about a month as they show up – well – whenever!)First installation of bottom flight was not code compliant (inconsistent riser heights)On 2nd attempt, the installer (angry at having to remove his shoddy work?) took no care and smashed multiple holes in recently professionally finished plaster board. Screamed and swore throughout. The result was again inconsistent riser heights – with the added bonus of the wrong species of timber on the risers different to the entire rest of the staircase. No follow up or quality checks by John – the onus is 100% on the customer to check the compliance, the quality and then identify issues and then contact John about them. His response on multiple occasions was that he has a lot of jobs to manage so he can’t be up to speed with all of them.The 3rd installation was done by Greg – the guy who normally just does the measure and quotes.You can’t say the company headed up by John has bad customer service – it’s more that they simply don’t have customer service (a completely foreign concept). I’ve never received an apology or acknowledgement from John for the utter crap I’ve gone through to get a staircase.All said and done - the end result is pretty poor. There are varying gaps against the wall – some are neat, some you could slot a ruler down. I will have to find a way to fix these myself.

I have been using Ideal Stairs & Handrails for 13 years (I am a builder) and like all subcontractors, they need to be managed ie regular phone calls in conjunction with a meeting on site during the site measure. If you are a Mum or Dad wanting a slick salesman, in a flash car who talks the talk, don't call Ideal. If you wish for an old school small business who gives sound advice, and delivers a good tradesman like product at a great price, call John.

I’ve worked there. You’d think they take more care in the wood/ stairs they make? Nah, just another place where it’s rushed. No eye for detail. It’s a race against time. Rude owner John. Talks down to everyone of his workers. Would definitely not purchase or work here.

My stairs were done in a professional manner and the end result excellent. Steve was fast, efficient and courteous and I recommend the company because of his good work and the fact that they put themselves under a lot of pressure to get the job done before Xmas.

The stairs are nice I can't complain. Well actually I can there's the bruising to the wood and the two massive drill holes by the installer, and then there's the damage to paint work of my house as the single installer moved a 6m long trestle using the railing as support. The service was poor beyond words, communication poor, rude, unapologetic and far, far from professional. The guy that comes out doesn't talk to the guys that build stairs or the installer. The order was not followed and many, many mistakes were made, all fixed but we had to phone them, with no apology uttered, at all, ever. They promised a 2 day install, it was 4, they didn't mention that the railings are done a week or so later. They didn't start on the day they said despite us calling at 3pm the day before and getting the reassurance that they would start. The phone call in the morning was rude and short; their not coming today" "not much you can do about it". It cost me money as the other trades I had all got pushed back. DO NOT GET STAIRS HERE. We recently commissioned a set of American Oak stairs for our renovation in Hendra. I don't normally post reviews but felt compelled due to some of the reviews on here.We looked around at multiple stair companies and read all the reviews. Initially we were put off Ideal due to some negative reviews but in consulting with our builder, he recommended them highly.We took on Ideal based on this recommendation and have not regretted it.John sent one of his team out to help with the design and communication, whilst minimal was succinct and effective to ensure Ideal nailed the brief.We are extremely happy with the stairs from the build quality and finishes to the value. The installation team were also fantastic and were able to talk through our options to ensure we got the best result.I would not hesitate to use them for further work and just goes to show that reviews are not everything.
