Chris is a skilled and passionate teacher of woodworking. Carpenter, builder & craftsman combined into a friendly patient man. Has the equipment (all the woodworking tools to teach and create + stunning surroundings to teach in! Who wouldn't want to learn a skill in a heritage building that Chris and his partner Kaye have not lovingly restored and furnished? The place oozes their vision and personal touches to create many memories for all the stay. We spent 7 nights here and don't want to go home. Both Kaye and Chris have made us so welcome.

Exactly what I needed! .... a great space for woodworking, great instruction, and great accommodation.I spent five days with Chris earlier this year doing a box-making course. I arrived with no woodworking experience; my only goal was to figure out if woodworking was what I wanted to do in my retirement. He modified his course to meet my needs and we had a great time.Chris is a very easy going person. He was very patient, understanding and knowledgeable. I highly recommend him to anyone who wants to learn woodworking in a mature and relaxed manner.I stayed onsite in Chris and Kaye's B&B. This is a lovely old character (and I think heritage) building. Kaye is wonderful and went above and beyond making sure everything was perfect, including our morning coffee!I spent many evenings enjoying a fine shiraz with Chris sitting by the fire. In all, I highly recommend the Derwent Valley School Of Creative Woodwork for anyone who wants to learn woodworking and have a wonderful experience doing so. 5 stars.

Very educational

I’m thrilled with the box I made with Chris’ guidance, and the skills I learnt along the way. A fantastic experience all round, given an historic setting, great lunchtime meals and Chris and Kaye’s warm company. I’ve only been in Tassie for six months and this is the best thing I’ve done so far. (Second best, MONA!)
