Smooth when calm. It's not too big that you can't kayak around a lot of it. I have a few times. Last time was with my wife. The wind blew in unexpectantly. I should have taken a tow rope to help her get back to the car park. It was a lot of fun all the same. Next time I'll take the rope in case.
