Mongkok Tea House
This was my second visit to Mongkok Tea House in Camberwell. Previously we dined in and tried the brunch menu. Where that menu was definitely a bit misguided and lost, the dinner menu is the complete opposite. Very cohesive from the decor to the entrees and mains. The bar is a spectacular backdrop and the constant mixing and smoking of drinks adds to an otherwise placid atmosphere. We tried the pineapple bun, kingfish, organic tofu, panfried fish, poached chicken and the dry aged duck. Together with this we also had xo fried rice and a couple of desserts to finish. The food is making the most of the great produce that they are able to get. The dishes are well balanced for the Cantonese palette and is similar to Lee Ho Fook, another Melbourne Cantonese inspired eatery.7/10 and we will definitely visit again!

It was our first time dining here. The wait staff was super friendly and very helpful, recommending dishes to us, and constantly checking in whether we enjoyed the food. Very enjoyable and a positive experience. Would definitely return again.

I recently visited Mongkok Tea House in Camberwell and it was an amazing experience. I have nothing but praise for this restaurant. A dinner for two cost us approximately $69p/p.We tried the Buttermilk Pineapple Bun with Vegemite char-siu butter, and it was a unique and tasty twist on a classic dish. The Prawn Scotch Egg with Sweet chilli jam and roasted prawn oil was also incredible. The flavors were perfectly balanced and the textures were spot on.The Honey Roasted Dry Aged Duck was a standout dish. The meat was juicy and flavorful, and the skin was crispy and perfectly caramelized. The Triple Cooked Potatoes with black bean chilli were also fantastic. The potatoes were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, and the black bean chilli gave it a nice kick.To top off our meal at Mongkok Tea House, we decided to try the milk tea parfait for dessert. It was a heavenly combination of milk tea, chocolate and ice cream. The dessert was beautifully presented, and each layer was perfectly balanced in flavor and texture. It was the perfect end to an already amazing meal.I can confidently say that Mongkok Tea House has become one of my favorite restaurants in the area. The attention to detail in both the food and the service is remarkable. I cannot wait to return and try more of their delicious dishes. If you're in Camberwell and looking for a memorable dining experience, I highly recommend Mongkok Tea House. 5/5 stars!

I would like to say it is the first time I try this restaurant which is not traditional Chinese dished, more like fusion cuisine. Some food is tasty like the entree and the drink. But some are very wired, like the duck! Sweet, bitter, and not fully cooked! The price is expensive, so hard to come back again!

Service was attentive, I liked the old school floor tiles and decor, ambience was good too. The high ceilings made the space feel slightly empty though.Moving onto the food, highlight dishes included the dry aged duck and steamed Murray cod. Both proteins are cooked so perfectly - tender and moist. The sauce of the cod is also very unique, a bit tangy, sweet, salty, keep the dish very interesting . Hats off to the chef for the mains. The prawn scotch eggs are delicious but for $13, it’s pretty steep imo. The biggest letdown for us was the buttermilk pineapple bun (bolo bao). The flavour is mediocre at best and for $9, it is not worthwhile imo. Dessert wise, would recommend the Milk tea parfaitDrinks were good and the setup of the bar is clean and aesthetically pleasing.Overall a very good experience.

Came by chance as we were in the area but the prices are a little high for the portions you receive.I would not pay $20 for XO fried rice, and only to be given a small rice bowl serving. The pineapple bun, with Vegemite butter was good, but their photos deceive you as the size was absolutely tiny!We really enjoyed the kingfish and the scallop curry, but again, a slightly bigger serving and we would have been happy. Our mistake in reading the half duck was $62, which was delicious and tender, but I would rather have a whole Peking duck and its side dishes. Both desserts were good, one was refreshing and the milk tea one was slightly forgettable. The service was great and attentive, but would only return if their prices matched their serving size.

Pineapple buns are usually sweet, but here they've made it into a savoury spam burger. The buns themselves tasted more like brioche buns, the top crust characteristic of pineapple buns is lacking thickness and crunch. I think the sauce is made of chilli but it's not spicy at all, tasted more like tomatoes. The mongkok fried rice is quite good. Not many options in the menu.

Love the ambiance and restaurant design. An interesting asian fusion dining experience for my friends and I tonight. Ordered the banquet which was $88pp plus some extra side dishes. Theres a lot going on in all the dishes with very complex flavours, its a hit and miss depending on your personal preferences. I liked the drunken kingfish, daikon gnocchi and milk tea parfait but wasn’t a fan of the vegemite butter, octopus or the chicken. I think its a very brave attempt in fusion asian cuisine and a fun experience for your taste buds. I probably not going to do this banquet again but would be interested in trying the next seasonal menu.
