We had the steak and fish. Delicious rich food. Great for a special occasion. Staff are friendly, professional and efficient. Coffee sourdough bread with whipped butter was a delightful starter.

We went to Poodle, a bistro/European/modern Australian restaurant, for lunch. Rock and baked oysters from the ‘raw bar’, spent coffee & rye sourdough and baked Camembert fondue to start, a larger dish of Leek & Comte tart, and from the grill, a 250gr beef scotch and a 500gr club steak, with sides of heirloom zucchini and French fries. The sourdough didn’t seem to have been baked fresh and the crust was so chewy, and came with kefir butter that was whipped, so it tasted like… airy butter. We waited close to an hour (despite the restaurant not being packed) for our mains. Both steaks had big chunks of fat which was way too greasy and fatty for me, and they didn’t have the 1kg dry aged rib eye steak we were after. The fries were not crispy, the heirloom zucchini lost its texture - it was too soft and bland. The best dish was probably the baked soft gooey Camembert which was well balanced as it came with peach peas and crisps. Was thinking of getting desserts, but wasn’t keen on possibly waiting another hour for them. Great cocktail list though, and wait staff were very friendly. The restaurant itself had a nice warm ambiance, but food-wise, next door restaurants (ie. cutler & co, marion) were better.

Poodle Bar and Restaurant has to be one of the best restaurants in town. It is a classy, decadent, service and food oriented place in the fun, inclusive and trendy end of Fitzroy - Gertrude Street. The staff are attentive and well spoken, make you feel special and the food is delicious, cleverly constructed and served with flair. The wine list and beverages are top end and discerning. I highly recommend this to everyone. My wife and I have dined here a number of times win special occasions (every occasion is special with my wife) and each time we were blessed and impressed to have dined here. Definitely a place to take your friends, family, loved ones and beautiful wife.

Dined here last night. A couple of the entrees like the mussels and the steak’s peppercorn sauce were painfully salty. I don’t mean a little too salty. I mean that they tasted like the chef accidentally tipped the bottle in and went with it. Some dishes were okay. The sourdough bread was great. Cocktails were good. Pricing was competitive. Service was average. Don’t think we’ll be coming back anytime soon as there are a number of options at this price point that deliver better food and service.

This was the best food I’ve had in a very long time! We got the scallops, oysters, peppers, veal pastrami, duck heart skewers, zucchini, fries and the steak special. The oyster, duck heart and steak were the best, but everything was great!The atmosphere is great - dark and comfortable. Would be a perfect date spot. The wine was nice and the espresso martini was amazing. The service was very friendly. I’ll definitely go back!

Fantastic dining room with a great vibe and awesome service. I shared the 1kg ribeye and it was amazing! We also had the oysters which were a bit on the smaller side, and didn’t really enjoy the baked ones. Outside of that it was a great night and the bar was happy to accomodate off menu cocktails.
