Not good...not a recommended stop. Why VicRoads can't keep these Hume roadside facilities clean is beyond me.Just put on some local staff to maintain a section of facilities along the freeway. Performance based....

Above average rest stop, probably a worthy rest stop if in need - plenty of undercover bbq areas and plenty parking. The facilities were, how can I put this.....moist.

Grasstree Northbound Rest Area
This rest stop has just a little more to offer than others along the Hume Highway. There are shaded picnic tables, a BBQ, a small pond, and even a 0.6km loop track to help you stretch your legs after too many unhealthy hours of just sitting in your car. The track passes many excellent specimens of the eponymous grass trees. We observed one couple tent camping on the grassy lawn behind the picnic tables.

Grasstree Northbound Rest Area
Better than average rest area with good facilities. There are lots of undercover tables for shade and shelter although the toilets could be more numerous. The 600 metre walk is good to stretch the legs but if it's a hot day wear a hat and take water as it is pretty open with lots of small poplar box eucalypts just rising above the grass trees. The walk doesn't head towards the nearby railway line, sorry railfans! Keep heading up to Ironbark rest area if you want that.
