Giles Baths
A fun spot for sunbathing or a swim, be cautious of uneven rocks and crabs! Haha

Located at the foot of the northern headland of Coogee Beach. It's a small yet beautiful, sometimes can be rough natural rock pool, known as the Bogey hole" . It’s popular and always busy."

Small natural bath area right at the north-eastern end of the beach. Open to the ocean so there is constant surge. Not suitable for people who are not confident swimming in a confined area where they can't see the bottom. At high tide the surge can be tricky for anyone who is not a strong swimmer. Because the depth changes quickly it is easy to be banged into the rocks close to the wall if you let the surge push you around.

Still remember my first visit here in the late 70's as a young teenager, when Giles Gym was operating. The old school gymnasium, rusty weights, scrappy leather benches & the old guys everywhere. After the workout we go out back & climb down the sandstone steps to the ocean pool below. something I always looked forward to & kept me coming back for many a year.

A magical, dynamic, changing place. You have to visit it on calm sea days, when the water is crystal clear and soft. But you should definitely visit it on days of huge and sparkling waves, when they go over the cliff furiously and form turquoise swirls. On sunny or stormy days: every day is a unique experience at Giles Baths.

This is worth a stop when doing the walk from Coogee to Bondi. The water down by the rocks is a brilliant blue and the scene looking back at the beach is fantastic. You can step right into the water and swim too, if bone chilling water is your thing.

Some beautiful color fishes! Quiet and easy to snorkel in the bath area.
