About the Business
Cooma Cottage – National Trust | Home of the first Australian-born explorer, Hamilton Hume. He bought the cottage on 100 acres and set about expanding it for his new life as a pastoralist. It still sits on extensive grounds perfect for picnics and lazy afternoons.The original colonial bungalow forms part of the earliest complex of dwellings and stables on the site. The property is most noted for being the home of Australian born explorer, Hamilton Hume (1797-1873). Hume bought the cottage and the 100 acres for ₤601 in 1840 and lived there for the rest of his life.

Well worth the entry fee for the guided tour of this historic site. The final home of Hamilton Hume, explorer of the region the National Trust take great care of this site and it contains much history of the region providing a great insight into the daily life of white settlers of the area.

Our visit to Cooma Cottage was very informative and well worth the visit in March this year. Barbara our guide was very knowledgeable and very generous with her time. She has a genuine love of Cooma Cottage and most willing to share the history of not only the cottage but also the surrounding area. Thoroughly enjoyable visit. Thank you.

If you enjoy Australian history and I do, it's well worth a look & guided tour. Mr Hume was an enlightened explorer who explored nsw/vic with help from first nations people, who he spoke to and respected. You'll be pleasantly surprised with what he achieved.

Lovely visit to Cooma cottage, the lovely ladies there were very informative and kind, such beautiful fews from the house and a lot of interesting facts. Highly recommend a visit if you haven't already

A significant part of Australia's heritage told through a beautiful property. Volunteers in the tours are passionate and informative and good to see this site being maintained for future generations. Worth a visit and well worth the small entry fee to help maintain the site.
