I've adopted three cats from VDR, 2 who are dearly departed and terribly missed. I still have my beautiful T (formerly Eytan) aka Tookie, aka Mr T, aka Tucchus...he's a superstar who goes by many names! I thank VDR every day for saving my babies and giving them a chance at life. Keep up the great work!

I volunteer and foster care for this rescue group for many years now and can say people work endless hours and give everything they can to help and rehome all animals in their care to the best possible forever home for each and every dog and cat. It’s not about rehoming as fast as possible but to find the perfect match, and this was the case for all dogs I have cared for. That’s what helps me letting go again and again to be able to help another dog in need.

I adopted my two gorgeous dogs from VicDRG and have also fostered and volunteered with them for a few years. VicDRG always puts the animals first and has saved many lives over the years. I cannot recommend them highly enough. Thanks VicDRG!

We were so blessed to find Victorian Dog Rescue who do so much to save difficult and senior dogs. First we rescued our Staffy x Kelpie, who had been in care for months whilst trying to find the right home that could cope with his mix of separation anxiety and leash reactivity (and for which they provided training assistance). Then we adopted our Staffy x Beagle who was very anxious and also leash reactive - and again training assistance was provided when needed. The care taken to match these special dogs with the right homes is extraordinary.

What a fabulous organisation, I adopted 2 beautiful cats from VDR, not only are they the perfect fit for our family the support and guidance we received from the adoption team and foster carer was excellent. They have a very thorough process to ensure the right pet is matched with the right home. Very professional, highly recommend.

WARNING.!!!DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS AGENCYWe were in the process of adopting one of the dogs from this group. We were advised that the process is very controlled and that it goes through much rigour to ensure that the dog is rehomed with the most suitable people. After our initial phone interview, which was at the very begining of the process, we were told that if we passed the home inspection and the meet and greet, that the dog would be ours.We were also told that someone from the agency would be in touch to organise the next step which was the home inspection. This did not happen.Instead we received an email requesting that we take the dog within a few days, and to skip the home inspection and the meet and greet. When we said that we needed a little more time to be ready to take the dog because we had no equipment to take care of her, that is when the president of this agency stepped in and berated us.We were accused of things we did not do and we were spoken to in such a manner that was entirely rude, and we were told that we could no longer be considered to adopt the dog.The welfare of the animals is put second place to the ego of their president that appears to get involved in simple procedural issues to berate potential adopters. The priority seemed to be to get the dog off their hands as soon as possible, and to get our money.Steer clear of these guys if you are putting your animal up for adoption or adopting an animal as there are better agencies out there.

Tried to adopt multiple dogs through Vic dog rescue. Took a month to receive an answer after following up. Despite meeting all the criteria listed was informed we were unsuccessful but could not be given a reason why. The dogs we applied for and many others are still listed months and months later. Doesn't make sense how with the 'overwhelming amount of applicants' none of these dogs could find a suitable home. Its a shame .

I have desperately wanted to adopt a dog and have applied for several of their dogs on their website, but have been rejected every time with no reasoning. I have been a dog owner all my life and I am currently wanting to adopt another dog for my current little girl. I have been truthful and honest in all my answers and I still get rejected. Is it just me or is their system flawed?

I put my details forward to adopt a particular dog a couple of months ago. I have been trying to make contact to see how the adoption process is going and have barley had any kind of response. I understand they are volunteers, however, if you are going to run an organisation like this one, be a little more transparent and communicate with people who are actually interested in adopting a dog. Poor Communication!

I've fostered dogs for this group and others. The group puts a lot of time and money it to the animals they recuse - well over the $800 adoption fee on average, in vet work, training and assessment. They are very fussy on who they adopt a particular dog to which means they go to a well suited home. It does lead to potential adopters not always knowing why they weren't successful, often due to information found during their time in foster care. It doesn't mean that the potential adopter is a bad owner, but there is another dog better suited to them.
