Isle of the Dead Cemetery
You can take a short boat ride that travels around the island, but no tourists boats stop here. It's too small to accommodate groups, and it would also disrupt the last resting place of both convicts and workers alike. Convicts are buried close to the waterline, with their former guards and others from the colony" buried higher."

This is in the dead centre of the bay, lol. 1100 people buried here, from convicts to military people. Very small island. You can do a tour of the island from the Port Arthur Discovery Centre.

A short distance away from the Port Arthur Historic Site, across the harbour, lies the extremely lonely Isle of the Dead, Port Arthur's unique island cemetery. This small island, which historically was referred to as Dead Island, is only about an acre in size and is the resting place for some 1500 convicts, free from the tyranny of man mostly in unmarked graves, but some in mass graves or multiple burial sites. On the higher ground, on a separate patch and in individual graves marked by headstones, is the burial of about 500 others including Port Arthur Surgeon George Robertson, the Chaplain Rev George Eastman, officers and soldiers, and their wives and children who followed them to the end of the earth, Van Diemen's Land. While there's not much to be seen on Dead Island or the cemetery today, the historical photos included here show what the Island and its cemetery looked like some 100 year ago.
