Amber May - Perth Birth Photography & Films

Amber wasn’t able to attend my birth in 2020 as planned due to restrictions. However she was still able to provide a beautiful service which I am so grateful for. Amber gave us some great tips for taking photos during our birth on our iPhones and then beautifully hand edited the photos. Her editing made the photos so much more beautiful and sacred. Couldn’t have asked for more!

Amber has taken photos for us on a number of occasions, most recently our home birth. Her work is truly a work of art! I'm so grateful that I have her wonderful images to treasure forever, and pass on to my children. There are moments captured that I would not have remembered otherwise, and the details are just beautiful. Not only that, but Amber flows into the room in such a way that she holds a steady presence but is also able to capture intimate moments without you even noticing. I hired Amber to photograph my birth at the start of my pregnancy, as a fellow birth photographer, choosing someone to document for me was a significant priority in my birth plan. What I didn't realize was that Amber would become so much more than just the lady with the camera at my birth.. Not only is Amber exceptionally talented but she is an asset to your birth on many many levels. She was warm and comforting, supportive, professional and compassionate. While my birth plans changed frequently in the weeks leading up to my delivery, Amber handled everything flawlessly and empathetically. On the day, I remember on multiple occasions (despite not remembering much else!) her warm words of comfort and reassurance that she and I have got this! I felt great comfort that despite my plans changing, Amber being there to capture our story would not change. I received my films and photos in a second to none time frame and her work is pure art. Amber captures everything in a way that is incomparable. She captured all the tiny moments and all the biggest ones too. She captured my son's journey to us discreetly, emotively, honestly and flawlessly. When I look at the images she captured for us I am taken right back to the moments she took these images which is so much more than just being able to pick up a great camera and take some photos. From start to finish, choosing Amber was a beautiful experience and I would be honored to have her work hanging in our home in future! If you are considering birth photography Amber and is worth every cent of the investment and so so so much more. Amber attended the birth of our first baby. During my labour Amber was a quiet, calm presence in the room. Both my partner and I have said how she seemed to give off an energy in room that made us feel supported and empowered, you can tell she was born to work with birthing women. The icing on the cake was receiving our photos. I expected the photos to be beautiful but I didn't expect her to capture moments in such an artful way. I have looked at our album everyday since our son was born and I am so grateful to have crossed paths with Amber.Birth photography with Amber was the best money I have ever spent, I cant recommend her services enough!

Amber was a vital member of my birthing team she was a calm supportive presence in a time of massive uncertainty. My daughter Poppy came at 32 weeks and Amber moved heaven and earth to still be apart of my daughters birth. Not only did she capture beautiful photos of my partner supporting me through my labour but also managed to get photos of my daughter mere seconds after I birthed her into my hands. Those first photos of my daughters face before she was rushed away to be hooked up to tubes and wires mean everything to me. I will cherish the photos forever and will pass them down to my daughter so that she may share the story of her birth to her children. If you ever considered having a birth photographer I can 100% say Amber is amazing at what she does and needs to be apart of your birthing team my one regret is I didn't meet her sooner as Poppy is my third and final baby.

Amber May was an absolute dream. She captured my birth so beautifully. Her presence is so gentle and calming, while capturing so many precious moments that can be immortalized forever. Having my photos to constantly look back on is something I will treasure forever, as it takes me back to the day I got to meet my third child. I highly highly HIGHLY recommend having Amber capture your birth, because she is truly amazing.

Amber and Sara’s ‘Becoming A Birth Photographer’ workshop allowed me to ask all the questions I could think of about what it would look like to move into this space with my photography business. Amber and Sara were incredibly open and generous in sharing their knowledge, opinions and experience. I’m so grateful to them for the opportunity to learn about this wonderful photography field. It was a pleasure meeting Amber in person, she is a beautiful person. I had a wonderful experience attending the Becoming a Birth Photographer Workshop that both Amber and Sara host together. They are both very knowledgeable and experienced about how to set up and run a birth photography business. If you are considering doing a workshop for birth photography, I highly recommend attending.

When our first son was born I was asking my husband question after question, trying to recollect the whole experience. I wanted to know every detail from his perspective as he supported me and witnessed our baby being born. I would have loved to have seen his reaction. As we were too busy soaking up the moment we didn’t take many photos, this is what made me consider having a birth photographer with our second baby. I was in two minds though. The thought to capture the journey and that beautiful moment of our baby being born excited me, but I was also worried the photos would be confronting while I’m in such a vulnerable state. I’m so happy I let go of my fears and allowed Amber into our birthing space. She was extremely professional, respectful and comforting to everyone in the room, I even forgot she was there at one point. Our sons first cry, our reactions, the first cuddles, the tears of happiness, isn’t just a memory but something we can look back on forever which bring back all those beautiful emotions with it.
