Nice Railway station/restaurant. We drove to Strahan from Queenstown and could not take the train, as we had our dog with us. But we did enjoy the atmosphere of the train station. The servie was very friendly and the food was decent Australian fare.

The train ride is between Strahan, Dubbil Barril and Queenstown. When we went there, only half-way rides between Strahan and Dubbil Barril and rides between Queenstown and Dubbil Barril were running due to staffing shortages. The train rides were accompanied by audio introductions of local history, as well as short rainforest walks at Lower Landing and Dubbil Barril stations. Highly recommended. We bought the heritage class tickets and the carriage felt a bit too crowded; lunch wasn’t included in our ticket either. This experience is still highly recommended. PS make sure you inquire with them if you expect steam engine locomotives - we had a diesel one for our ride.

We went on the train for the day. It was really good and the whole family loved it. The station has a Cafe and the food is amazing.

We booked the Wilderness experience, which I recommend, was nice to have the experience, with scones, soup and other little treats included. Also enjoyed the wander onto the back 'balcony' whilst the train was chugging along. We booked the full day, which got cancelled and then we ended up on a half day tour, and it was probably long enough.. not sure if the views would have been better on the other half, but if was more of the same, then the half day was def long enough.

Great historical train ride, and service on board was great.Currently only goes from Strahan to Dubbil Barril or from Queenstown to Dubbil Barril. I think the full trip will be available again in late 2023.

The West Coast Wilderness experience is interesting but not exciting. If you are happy to sit and enjoy the beautiful rainforest and river views for five hours, then this is for you. It was very relaxing, with comfortable seating and several people in our carriage took the opportunity to catch up on some sleep. But that could also be because there was no wifi on the journey. There was an opportunity to learn about the track’s history from the very passionate host, with snippets from personal recounts from her ancestor. Unfortunately our carriage didn’t have great audio though and often the sound system cut out. Our TV displaying the route also wasn’t working. The train stopped at two abandoned stations, where you can walk around and enjoy the rainforest. One of which you can order snacks from, if you have cash. On the last stop, we enjoyed honey tasting from the local hives.Unfortunately there was a lot of abandoned old tracks and maintenance equipment left on the side of the tracks as well as rubbish along the route. Please note that they advertised the trip as four hour half day, but we were gone for five hours. So take that into considerations with your itinerary and I suggest to pack snacks and drinks too.

Cool train, I'm glad it exists, but I wish they would improve the service and perfect the experience.Tips:- request that they turn off the lights so you can enjoy the views without distraction reflections.- if they turn on the heater, the windows will get foggy, and you can't see the outside.CONS:- The cabinet was hot, and the windows were foggy!- On the way back, DIESEL smells from the engine exhaust! Filled the cabinet with no way to get fresh air!!

This is one of the best trains I have ever taken in Australia. There are two classes available. The standard and the premium. The premium costs $70 extra person and is worth it.The coffee and tea is free on the train. Kind of never stopped eating on the train. The service is excellent. The train reverses direction half way and therefore does not matter which side I seat. There is a balcony for the premium class where I can go and it provides excellent camera shots. The train is enclosedWe have opportunity to visit the rainforest and buy honey.Wonderful experience and we enjoyed itMust buy tickets in advance because it is completely full.
