Unfortunately I was told that I couldn’t keep coming after a year of going. This is the worst thing to do to someone who has experienced trauma and abandonment and left me worse off than I was to begin with, and destroyed my trust in psychologists. I feel that someone who specializes in trauma should know not to do this. I also wasn’t given any referrals to any other psychologists or help with finding a new psychologist.From the Blue Knot guidelines: “Facilitate continuity of care as appropriate -Histories of betrayal and abandonment render complex trauma clients vulnerable to feelings of rejection. The ending of therapy (for whatever reason) is itself a process which represents `a critical opportunity to support and sustain the client’s gains in relational, emotional, and behavioural self-regulation’.27Courtois, Ford & Cloitre note that in the event of client engagement with a new therapist or treatment provider, interventions which encourage a sense of continuity should be integrated into the client’s transition process.”
