Birrong Girls High School
This school is extremely strict. They do not care about students education as much as they should, teachers would like to take the easiest ways for them to not get a headache, and yet the teaches at expect such high standards when they don’t even do their jobs properly. You get a detention or a phone call for almost anything that does not affect anyone else or the student from their learning. Some teachers are great such as Mr Clark and mrs Harook, I highly recommend them, their teaching style is excellent. They deserves a raise! This school is also extremely unhygienic, dull and un-motivating. Students aren’t motivated to come to school and enjoy it as there are barely any interesting excursions and incursions for whole school or year. It’s hard to know that these youthful bright students will look back at their high school life and not have core memories but rather disappointing ones. This school has standards for students to act like adults when some are only just literally 13/14. They are still young, bright and immature. Maturity will come but this school does not teach it the right way as they just expect students to be adults right away. I don’t recommend this school.

Horrible school absolutely disgusting The teachers there are pure racist we have to tuck our scarves in our shirt in a way that chokes us, if we don't have the right uniform we get sent To the deputy a deputy laughed in a girls face when she stood up for herself saying the principal doesn't wear a scarf and she doesn't know the struggles of wearing it the deputy (Tracey cross) laughed in her face and stated the scarf is a fashion statement and that it is just an accessory" you get detention for absolutely anything and everything do not send ur kids to this school or as i should say to this prison!!!"

They force Muslims to put their scarfs in their shirts and put pins to the shirt .They are disgusting, to name it safety . They even don't tell Christians like themselves ! To put their hair in the shirt for being safe . It's truly racism.

The School have really stupid rules specially around uniforms. My girls could not wear their jackets during the winter season, although it is part of school uniform and we have paid for it. instead they are pushing kids to purchase blazers which cost close to 200 a piece or suffer the cold. now out of no where they are introducing new rules on scarf to be worn certain way that makes girls look bad.I love to know their reasons. I am wondering if we are living in free democratic country or in a communist state. I really hope the school focused more on proper education instead of harshly disciplining students.

Really fed up with the inappropriate “rules” that have come out about the hijab being tucked in and “tying up the hair” funny that certain beings with colourful dyed hair are treated like royalty and given utmost respect however individuals that are practicing their religion and wearing the hijab are told that it’s nothing but a fashion statement. The disrespect from teachers towards students is appalling.. these teachers are on a massive power trip that are causing severe mental health issues and are affecting these girls in more ways than 1. These last few years are meant to be enjoyable and memorable however the ridiculous “rules” and the way they focus on the image of the school instead of how to ensure these girls get the best education disgusts me. For girls to be told they aren’t entitled to wear a neck scarf if they wear a hijab honestly baffles me… using these rules to express their Islamophobia as nothing else makes sense.. I have nieces in this school and we will be taking them out after being harassed by teachers and when complaints are made and no action against the teachers!DO NOT SEND YOUR DAUGHTERS HERE

This school is highly racist to poc, teachers using the hijab policy as an advantage to be Islamophobic, Birrong girls high school only cares about the schools reputation and the students appearance than education. The bathrooms are dirty. Teachers will find an excuse to give students detention. It’s a very scrict schoool (Parents don’t send ur children here please)

A tip for Improvement as a Ex student if you get a primary school to high school application for a student with a disability they need to be re directed to a more appropriate school preferably one with a support Unit. And if you do except the student you need to brief the teachers as when I was there and I had a disability, between 2001-2004 later down the track when Birrong was contacted about my disability they claimed they were not told or didn’t know or my primary school didn’t communicate it.

I’m sorry but lately the school has just become downright uncomfortable to go to. Honestly , it is a breeding ground for racial discrimination targeted at POC students. The constant on edge feeling that you’ll get told to tuck in your hijab because is a hazard infringes on my ability to practice my religion. I don’t need non scarfed and non Muslim teachers telling me what to do with my Hijab. You don’t know the struggle nor how difficult it can be at times. Some girls feel uncomfortable in their scarfs and authorial figures that dictate what they should do with it and shouldn’t do that it’s it just drives that uncomfortableness further. I’m not complaining due to a general hate of school etc because I actually love to learn but this is purely discrimination. This honestly was my somewhat first taste of being profiled against and made to feel different. When i was told to tuck in my “dangly thing” it takes away from the value of my hijab and honestly when the deputy principal said that to my whole class I genuinely wanted to cry. Yet we had to comply because we’d get in trouble. Just like how people with curly hair are told to straighten their hair because it is deemed as “unprofessional” (which is completely wrong), I shouldn’t be told what to do with my scarf. I completely understand it being hazardous in practical situations, but when girls are harassed that’s where I draw the line to defend it. Additionally , the direct suppression of my culture at school breaks my heart as well. When other students can wear their cultural clothing with pride for our school dance display, I feel happy for them. However my cultural clothing is deemed as “political” as stated by staff in the PE Staffroom. Also, the inappropriate behaviour from a particular teacher in the TAS Staffroom in displaying absolutely zero respect to students whatsoever, is absolutely disgusting. What’s even more sickening is when I was informed that one of the Prefect members was told off by the principal (I forgot the reasoning) and she began to speak to her in Arabic as if she is an import that doesn’t understand. I’m sorry but this behaviour is unprofessional and down right in humane. Now there are a lot of teachers that are genuinely interested and concerned with student wellbeing including Ms Zomaya, however for the one running the school and the few bad apples, their behaviour is absolutely disgusting and poisons true Birrong Girl culture. The additional disrespect office ladies display only to students is also disgusting. They are prepared to show parents some respect but when My sister , her friend and I asked kindly about trying on uniform and not having a supposed sheet, we were yelled at and humiliated. I understand these working positions are hard but you need to show some decent behaviour. Additionally, there is a particular math teacher who on duty harasses students to pick things up off the floor and demands the students to take rubbish from their table even if their intention was to do so. She will come to you numerous times and threaten you. It’s not the best explanation of the situation, however it’s an extremely uncomfortable one. Genuinely, from the bottom of my heart, don’t send your daughters here because there is a very clear abuse of power and strict culture whereby there is a hyper fixiation on uniform rather on the students education. And to the department of education , you seriously need to investigate into this school because there are various areas that are a cause for concern.
