Chillagoe Observatory and Eco Lodge

Superb spot for non powered sites. Shady spots to camp in, uncrowded, excellent showers and toilet block, as well as bush toilets scattered around.And on top of that you get an Observatory for seeing the impressive night sky (when not cloudy or a full moon) a great outdoor cinema and a very reasonably priced bar.Recommended.

The night time show at the observatory has the best views in the galaxy.The food at the eeko Lodge restaurant is simply sublime.If you love pepper steak you will never want to leave.Best place to stay and enjoy exploring the caves in the area.

Been there several times. However disappointed this weekend. We haven't been informed at booking, nor did we when we rung to days prior arrival that they were either already fully booked for diner, or that we should book right away. So at arrival, when we wanted to place our order for diner, we've been told that they are fully booked. Well we supported the local pub for the 2 evenings. We didn't get any milk either at arrival, and only one half empty little shampoo, so obviously not been replaced. Took several attempts at reception, to get toilet paper as no one there, nor responding to the bell. Not impressed this time by management

Lovely campground and very friendly & helpful staff. Located away from the main drag it’s quiet & has good facilities. Well worth doing the observatory if the skies are clear.

Stayed two nights in a nice room. Really rude staff. Couldn't do the observatory tour because it was full. They should've recommended booking a tour when I booked the room two weeks beforehand. No rubbish bins anywhere. They said the council charges too much for waste removal, so all campers and travellers must take their rubbish with them when they leave or dump it at the hospital bin down the road. Bizarre and ridiculous. They have two nice fire pits but you must BYO firewood or pay $20 for a small pile that you can only organise through the day or you miss out. I won't be staying there again.

A great place, friendly staff, great facilities. We were very pleasantly surprised by the facilities available here. Definitely the go to place in Chillagoe for camping, powered site or cabins.

Worse camping trip ever!!!! Went for the long weekend to have a nice peaceful camping trip with the family. Friday night, the restaurant was extremely loud until after 10 pm. Then, on Sat morning, we found out the camp kitchen and public fire pit area had been booked for a private function that night 5m from our campsite. The owner assured us the party would end at 10 pm. So not only could we not use the camp kitchen but we had to endure 4 hours of extremely loud and terrible Karoake!!! Finally at 10 pm thought we would get peace but no the party moved to the restaurant and carried on with loud music until the owner was threatened that the police would be called did she break it up at 11.30pm!!! We thought surely thats the worst of it so decided to stick with our plan and stay Sunday night. No such luck. The same party of people held a trivia night again near the camp kitchen and our camping spot and continued to talk extremely loudly until after midnight. I wish that was the worst of it. Then the owner allowed a small group of people watch formula 1 racing on the outdoor cinema at 9pm!!!! Right next to our tent. What would of been a wonderful weekend was completely ruined. The owner did nothing to curb the noise of the party or let us know that there would be a party happening at the location when we booked or we would not have gone. I would not recommend this place and will never be back!!!

We had a quick but fantastic stay. Food was awesome. Thank you for your hospitality. Edna our mascot Flamingo loved the place.

Lovely place. Just a shame that the bathrooms weren't looked at for at least the 4 days we were there.No toilet paper in men's toilet, no hand soap in womens bathroom, dirty.The owner was extremely rude during check in, snapping at my child for calling an ornament a ball. It's not like I am going to let my child kick a massive round ornament like a ball, geez, give me some credit!My husband also said we won't be returning as long as it is under the same management.

Excellent little caravan and camping site with very good facilities. Unfortunately we missed out on the observatory experience, comments from those people who were lucky to experience it, said it was very good and informative.
