I like eating at Sanctum. It's rarely too busy to fit me in, and there are 3 choices of style: inside (out of the breeze), on the deck (enjoying the aromas of the Indian takeaway next door) or al fresco (on the street). They do a great B&E roll, HC&T toastie and of course, hot beverages. All in all, cosy and tasty.

Nice little cafè with a few vegan options (that's the reason we went there). Waffles could have been larger for the price, in comparison to other cafes in the area. The iced chai was delicious and the service was super friendly and quick.EDIT: Lovely owner offered us free meal (see reply below) but we were just up from Sydney for a long weekend and just wanted to offer feedback which was clearly taken on board immediately, appreciate it and will probably pop in again if we are spending time in Newcastle area, especially if even more vegan options are added!

Wagyu Burger was tender but a bit bland. The sweet potato chips were excellent though, very crunchy and tasty. Buffalo grilled chicken wings were quite nice as well. So were the poached eggs with smoked salmon and hollandaise sauce and roasted kipfler potatoes.

Came in for Sunday breakfast. Waited over an hour for food despite barely anyone else being in the cafe. After the hour wait only one meal came out. The “big breakfast” consists of one egg one rasher of bacon, half a sausage and soggy bread. Filth. No wonder every other cafe is busy except for this one. Staff were negligent giving us water glasses with no water, had to ask for water. Coffees took over 15 minutes and weren’t great at all. Won’t be coming back.Rather than having a snap back, maybe train your staff and chefs. No initiative or recognition. I spoke to the staff about the missing ingredients on the plate and was told that’s how it came. The food was plain terrible regardless of half of it being missing. You’d think with the one hour wait for food they wouldn’t forget anything on the plate but low and be hold. You need to run a better business,,, just sayingI’m not the only one who had this absolutely HORRIBLE experience. Read the other reviews. It’s very clear this business is unprofessional and clearly non viable. They have no concept to accept responsibilities for their poor actions. Absolutely no wonder every cafe was busy except for this one. No apology or anything for the terrible service, just plain bad. If you’re a Newcastle local looking for somewhere to eat DO NOT GO HERE. It is pure trash

Had a Sunday breakfast at this nice cafe on Darby St. The staff were friendly and hospitable. I ordered chicken and waffles, which came with cheese sauce and maple syrup - the combination went surprisingly well. The long black coffee was good also. A pleasant experience overall, would visit again.

Straight up food with perfect little touches like some fresh dill on the poached egg or beetroot dust and radish on the fritters... delisious food that hits the spot without hitting the wallet. Don't waste you time on the other hipsters joints up the road named after seasons.... this is better food at a better price without all the.... Look at me I'm having brunch" fanfair...."

This was a hidden gem in my opinion. Imogen makes the best coffee in the area and I have tasted quite a few. If you are after a good coffee and great breakfast, this is the place to go. No granola though if you are anything like me.

My go to cafe this part of Newy. They're open when others have closed. Always friendly, helpful attitude. Good service and menu range. Was still able to order from the Breakfast menu till 4:30 pm. Not many are that flexible and welcoming. Costs $$ but standard for Darby St.

Great food, juices and service!I was so relieved that they were still serving food at 4pm yesterday.I had a fresh juice and Buddha bowl. Buddha bowl was great with all the usual ingredients plus some yummy pineapple and salty, crunchy hazelnuts. Delicious! Colourful, tasty and full of texture. The juice was also just what I needed, with mint and melon - really thirst-quenching. Great place to stop, especially when a lot of cafes and restaurants aren't serving food anymore.

Fluffiest scrambled egges this side of Sydney. At first, I was like “radish with egges?”, but then I was all like “radish with egges!” after trying the radish that came with the egges. Awesome touch. Will definitely come here again.
