Came here tonight, this place is amazing, I think you would be blown away by the flavours. Don’t want to rule out any dish because they all taste amazing but my personal favourite is the Salmon Carpaccio. Very private and quiet for a nice evening dinner, very comfortable decor. Highly recommended. Family of 4.

My go to list, finally today I gone for lunch with my family.Hidden gem in Mortlake. Japanese/Korean style cafe. Amazing friendly service, good quality of the fresh ingredients. Nice open cafe with indoor and outdoor seating. We ordered Iced Hojicha, Hot Sticky Chai, Cappuccino.As for our good selection Salmon Poke, Tuna Poke (Tuna marinate in special sauce for 3 days) and grill chicken burger with yummy chips.We all enjoyed our drinks and food.Will be back to try the rest of the menu.

Overall we were quite pleased with our experience here. A bit of fusion happening so definitely a few things on the menu that caught our eye. The food here was pretty good and I may consider trying other menu items as well. Service was friendly and prompt and the interior of the place is quite nice. I did find that the smoothie could be sweeter, so I’m suggesting possibly adding honey into the mixture but that’s my preference. Also the soft shell crab seems like a good idea on paper but it’s probably better not on a burger. It just gets a bit mushy and you don’t get to enjoy the texture as you normally would.

Nice little Japanese cafe, away from busy areas. Went here for lunch on a sat, and was just quite busy, but service was still on point.Food was different but incredibly delicious. The favourite was the salmon tacos and octopus waffle. Will definitely be coming back to try the rest of the menu.

TLDR: Great value, amazing taste, quick & Friendly service. 5/5 would come back again.For those who are keen on finding a good sushi place this is the spot. Size for sushi is perfect, for that one bite slice experience. The sushi tastes great, their wasabi is freshly grated too which is a fresh change. Definitely a cut above the standard sushi bar and yet they're a Japanese cafe". Quite impressed. Combine this with quick and friendly service

Really enjoyed our dinner with Issen, they're a great addition to the area. Don't go expecting traditional Japanese fare; this is extremely fusion and has unique takes on things, such as barley for the base carb in several of the main course meals, sashimi tacos (pictured), and so on. But everything tasted amazing, and was really affordable for this kind of place. For example desserts were $10 and $7 each, which is great value for the kind of quality you're getting!All up, would definitely recommend, and can't wait to try them for lunch and breakfast!

Cafe Issen offers an eclectic mix of traditional and non traditional Japanese fare. Salmon tacos feature alongside sushi and sashimi platters, but there are also burgers on the menu if your dining companions are not a fan of Japanese food!For entree we had the tacos - super crispy shell with a delightfully flavoursome filling, and the fried chicken - crunchy on the outside and juicy and steaming on the inside. Our combination sushi and sashimi platter consisted of generous portions of extremely fresh fish and was very delicious. I can’t fault the service either which was friendly and efficient. Will definitely be back.
