About the Business

Nature's own light show at Wollemi National Park | Blog - NSW National Parks | Get that natural glow: visit NSW’s Glow Worm TunnelEveryone’s a sucker for a good light show, from New Year’s Eve to Vivid. Unfortunately, they come with huge crowds, long waits, and that depressing shuffle you do when 10,000 people are headed in the same direction. But don’t stress, there’s a year-round spectacle that’s just as magical, free, and won’t require waiting in line: curtain-up on the Glow Worm Tunnel in Wollemi National Park.

Amazing hike for a great payoff! The worms themselves are very noticeable if the cave is dark!Walk to the cave is long and can be steep in some areas. Terrain is definitely rocky and dirty. There are a lot of views offered of surrounding area thoo :) multiple other trails as wellStay safe and be respectful of the park

Glow worms were very impressive, just don’t forget to bring a torch per person as it is very dark in the tunnel and it has lots of tripping hazards. Walk was nice but the first thing you have to do is cross a shallow river so bring a towel to dry your feet after. Total walk time was about 3 hours at a leisurely pace. Would highly recommend.

The 35km drive from Lithgow into the Wolgan Valley walking track was paved, with only the last 1.5km unpaved. Some parts into the Wolgan Valley are narrow and steep, so drive carefully. The unpaved road will make your car very dusty but otherwise driveable with a normal hatchback car.Park your car and start the walk by crossing a very shallow river. Pack a towel/hanky to dry your feet. Some hiking route are steep and tiring to walk but manageable. There is an option to go straight to the glow worm tunnel (3km), we took around 1.5-2 hours to reach the tunnel cos we stopped a lot for photos. Then we went back via the old coach road (8km total), about 6 hours in total for our whole circuit, lots of photo taking and with around half an hour lunch break.Pack your own food and bring your rubbish home with you.The view is amazing with the trees trying to recover from the bushfire. Makes me wonder how it looks like before the bushfire. Please keep quiet and don't make too much noise in the tunnel. Try to turn off your torches or use low beam lights in the tunnel to enjoy the glow worms. We went during the school holiday, there were lots of people walking through the tunnels with super bright torches which make the experience less magical. Most visitors park at the Glow Worm Tunnel Road, which is a much nearer walk to the tunnel.

Best way to go to the glow worm tunnel ! 8 km return (2h45) if you take the easy way. The first kilometer is steep but then it's flat and nice.By car you'll have only 1 km of gravel road so it's easy accessible

Glow worm tunnel is always worth a visit whether you're driving (access via Lithgow) or walking from here.If you want to do the loop, go via the railway alignment on the way up-its a lot easier and has beautiful views over Donkey Mountain and Emirates resort. The old coach road is now a fire break sized track with lots of weeds, it's also REALLY steep.Next time I go back, I'd go via railway alignment, go through the tunnel and go about 200m past to the pagoda track, visit that section then return the same way.Lots of wildlife and local flora and as others have mentioned, bring a small towel for the Wolgan River crossing, a headlamp for the tunnel and a camera for the views! There is no reception in the area so travel safe with either PLB or leave a note with your intentions. It's easy to have a minor mishap (as I found out-luckily it wasn't slightly more serious) and it's not super busy on this track, especially in the late afternoon.

The best way to get to the Glow Work Tunnel, which is an amazing place- you can drive via Glow Worm Tunnel Road from Lithgow which gets you closer to the tunnel (a better option if you have young children). The walk from here is initially steep as it climbs up to the old railway line, then is flat up to the Glow Tunnel (4.5km one-way, and can be combined into a circular walk). Nice views over Wolgan Valley. Don't forget to bring a torch!Track notes: hikingtheworld.blog/2015/02/15/glow-worm-tunnel-from-newnes/

Lovely hike to an awesome spot. Left from the Wogan Valley Carpark and walked counter clockwise. Best way to go. Very scenic.

Way better than going down glowworm tunnel Rd, less dirt roads and less potholes. Just be aware the first 20 meters have a creek running over the path. You'll need to barefoot it then put your kicks on. Do the trek anti clockwise. You'll be thankful at the end when you're going down hill at the end.Amazing hike with glow worms, goanas, whip birds, and amazing colour contrast with new vegetation coming in after the fires.
