Alex's Fish and Chips and Take Away Food

Great little fish and chips shop. The fish is very fresh and tasty and the owner is really nice and friendly!It was the first time there for us and he offered us an extra fillet on the house.We'll definitely come back :)

Drove past this unassuming neighborhood shop and decided to stop for some fish n chips based on the high Google rating, and met the most lovely friendly generous owners Alex and Lia.They have been cooking fresh seafood and feeding the local community for the past 38 years and taking such good care of the shop and its customers. Fresh seafood, hand cut chips and oil that's changed daily. They open the shop six days and do a deep clean on Monday. Alex showed me the rangehood that's shiny and spotless. As soon as we ordered, Alex put some potato scallops on the counter and said eat eat. We were treated with his jokes and the gorgeous smile of Lia's while waiting for the food. When the food is packaged, Alex said come back try the fish grilled next time and then insisted on grilling a piece for us to try. It's like visiting your friends' parents/grandparents and keeping getting fed nice food.This neighbood shop is what we miss about the good old days. Everyone knows everyone's name and probably the names and orders of their entire family. The love of cooking and of looking after each other and the pride.Walked away with a very happy tummy and a heart that's filled with warmth.

Humble family owned store in a quiet little strip. Business seemed quite constant with locals walking in and consistent phone calls. Wait time was about 20 minutes and we were given a fried potatoes for waiting.Fish and chips were fried well, unfortunately we're no offered chicken salt.Calamari was slightly disappointing and they were processed and crumbed as opposed to the real stuff.

I recently discovered Alex's Fish and Chips and I am so glad I did! This hidden gem off Grieves Parade in Altona is a must-visit for anyone looking for delicious fish and chips. The fish is absolutely perfect - it's cooked to perfection and tastes incredibly fresh. The burger was also spot on - it had that traditional fish and chip shop taste that I was looking for. The portions are generous and the prices are very reasonable. The Alex and his wife were also incredibly friendly and welcoming, which makes for a great experience overall. I highly recommend Alex's Fish and Chips to anyone looking for a great local fish and chip shop. I'll definitely be back for more!

The owner was extremely lovely and friendly! Fish and chips made with love! We absolutely loved it. Probably the best we ever had. The owner even gave us free potato cakes while we were waiting and even gave us extras packed in our order. So kind! Highly recommend! All of these for only 20$.

Wow, this place is a real time capsule. I felt like I'd gone back to the 1970s! Old school decor but immaculately clean. Cash only. The grilled flake was huge and cooked with fresh herbs - best I've ever had. The chips looked a bit anaemic but were actually delicious. Lots of batter on the battered fish and potato cakes but very tasty. Nice big serves and a reasonable price.

The best fish and chips. The owners are a really nice couple. They gave us so much free food before ours was ready that we were full before we started haha its a shame they're not next to the beach because they'd make a fortune but we were happy to get from there and then drive to the beach. My only criticism is the Calamari rings are processed and not fresh. But the fish and chips were really good. Both fried and grilled.

Cons:Placed a phone order but they don’t ask for your name or give you a ticket number, so you sit there waiting anxiously when you arrive and actively listen so no one takes your order.Cash only - no card payments accepted, which is strange in 2022 especially coming out of a pandemic. This wasn’t explained to us on the phone which was disappointing. There isn’t a nearby ATM, so we had to drive 10 minutes home and back again.Potato cakes were very crispy and lacked a lot of potato unfortunately. Tasted mostly like oil.Chips were hand cut but were quite soggy.Entire meal had no salt.Pros:Well priced and quite affordable.Venue is rich with history and family run, so you can see there’s some care that goes into everything.Crumbed flake was great, and the batter had lovely herbs in it that elevated the flavour.Convenient parking.All staff seemed nice, positive and welcoming.
