Barron Falls Skyrail Station
Barron Falls Skyrail StationVisited on 15/7/2022If visitors come from Smithfield Skyrail Terminal, Barron Fallw Skyrail Station is the second stop after Red Peak. The station is so named not because the Barron Falls is here, but it has the Edge Lookout that the visitors can view the Barron Falls at a distance, and the Barron Gorge hundreds of metres down. The Barron River flows through the gorge.Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Visitors must not compare the Falls with those famous falls like Iguazu or Niagara Falls. An interesting fact that visitors may want to know is the under Heritage Lane about 300 metres below is the Australia's first underground hydroelectric power station commissioned in 1963. It has two 33 MW generators which can be powered up easily and provide secure and reliable electricity supply to Queensland. It is magic to stand at the Edge Lookout, enjoy the panoramic views of the Barron Gorge hundreds of metres below, and the very contrasting white" colour waterfall in the picturesque green background. July is not really the best time of the year to see the waterfall in its glorious moment.I am really fascinated by some artists who left their impressions of fallen leaves on some parts of the concrete paths. I doubt many visitors notice them especially on a very bright sunny day.The CSIRO Rainforest Interpretation Centre at Barron' Falls is not to be missed. Please check out my other relevant reviews."

One of the best scenic train journey is Australia. Beach, Mountain and Barron falls view all together makes it a memorable trip for anyone. A must try for a Cairns Trip.

A truly memorable experience to view the forest from above the trees. The staff were exemplary in their welcome good humour and concern that we should enjoy every moment. An engineering triumph and a tourist (like us) experience we are so delighted not to have missed. It's worth a detour necessary! But don't miss it and the photo opportunities it offers as well the photo of us that I initially resisted but am pleased to take it home as a reminder.

Quick stop along the scenic railway track but worth the stop. The falls look majestic after a season of rain. The viewing platforms were spacious and provided great views. The platform was easy to access though watch out for the steep steps. The information board was helpful in describing the history and the guard rails were sturdy. The train also gave an unmistakeable steam horn to alert passengers to alight the train again. Best 10min break along a fantastic historic route!

Definitely stop here. Short, quick and great views of the falls. Some neat history of the old methods of transport into the highlands as well. Your 10 to 15 minutes is better spent here than in Kuranda!

Stopped here on the way down to Smithfield in the Skyrail Cableway. Great views of the Barron Falls. Also saw the Kuranda Scenic Railway train heading back down to Cairns. There is a CSIRO Rainforest Interpretation Centre here which is worth visiting.
