Great place for peace and quiet. Watch out for marsupials near the roadway. Plenty of birds.

The No1 venue for rowing in Tasmania. Even if your not a rower it is well worthwhile going for a drive down to the lake, Don't forget to visit Tasmazia, great place to get lost.

That day I was at Lake Barrington, I could have stayed there forever. It was a warm, sunny Saturday morning in January We had a group of six—we were swimming. We had set out at 11am to beat the heat, but when we left the dock and started rowing, it was already quite warm. The sun hung in the sky like it didn't want to move. We'd been out on Lake Barrington for hours before we saw the snakehead fish jump out of the water. It was like something out of a shark movie: the head broke through the water's surface, eyes looking around and jaws open wide, then disappeared with a splash back into the lake. The rest of us stopped swimming and stared in silence at each other for a moment before we all started laughing and sharing stories about our own most terrifying experiences on Lake Barrington as we were swimming back to shore. We spent the rest of that day doing bbq in the sun, talking about our future plans, and enjoying good company until it got too late to stay awake any longer.
