A long jetty on Semaphore Beach. Good for relaxing, fishing and crabbing etc.

Semaphore Jetty
Great place to spend time at the beach, jetty, and head down to various places to eat. Small train ride great for kids and adults alike which goes down the length of the bay a fair way and back. Playground and this time of year amusements and rides. Lots of parking available compared to other strips. Not too crowded.

Semaphore Jetty
Very nice, peaceful and fresh place to go, you can go for a drive, have a chat with friends, family or you also can enjoy the food and drink around the jetty.

Great place to go crabbing, but beware of Asians either unable to speak english or pretend to be unable to speak english, using illegal numbers of nets and catching 60 to 70 percent undersized crabs. When confronted, they play dumb and become verbally aggressive in some foreign language. The thing is, judging from the knowing smirks, they know exactly what they are doing.

It's a pretty good jetty, and great spot to watch the sunset too.

The Semaphore Jetty was completed in 1860, primarily to provide berths for the Pilot and Quarantine Launches, as well as many small craft plying to and from the jetty to the ships at the anchorage. The Customs officers went out to the ships in the Pilot Launch. This venerable structure was later a focus of seaside holiday activities and is currently the terminus of the Semaphore to Fort Glanville Steam Railway. In 1873, the original jetty was extended to a length of 2138 feet, running far beyond the blue line and the water was 15 feet at the end. A lifeboat shed, crew’s quarters and a shelter shed were built on a branch spur which ran in a northly direction from the end, near where customs and stores sheds were constructed.Another branch spur, built in 1888, ran in a northerly direction from just west of the kiosk to a great fenced area for the baths. The baths were divided into two sections – one for males and the other for females – for in those days mixed bathing was not permitted.Compared with today’s outlook, prudency was very severe. From Largs Bay Jetty down as far as Glanville Hall, there were notices every few hundred feet along the beach, indicating Ladies in one direction and Men in the opposite. The ladies wore neck-to-knee bathers and the men’s trunks always reached to their knees.

Semaphore is a beautiful beach area, with lots of (kind of pricey) activities for families in the summer. You can escape the sun by setting up under the jetty. The jetty is a good length, with safe railing, but I wouldn't leave toddlers unattended because there are gaps. There's a playground. Decent toilets. Parking is ok, except in peak times, but the paths make for a pleasant, safe walk. There are also lots of shops in the area where you can buy food, etc.
