We had a few lovely meals here while guests at the Cradle Mountain Hotel. We skipped the buffet option for a la carte, and were really happy with everything, especially the service. All the wait staff were delightful (especially those dealing with a number of needlessly rude guests!)The meals were well-cooked, but would love to see a few more green vegetables on the plate, especially with the pork belly which was very rich.

food was very mid and very overpriced. we ordered the fish of the day and the chicken schnitzel and it tasted like your average supermarket frozen food. for some reason the gravy was saltier than the atlantic and the fish was drier than the sahara. the kids meals were average. they came with the most basic ice cream which were half melted and, once again, the cheap supermarket type quality <3 the interior design was soooo cool there was a potted dead tree in the corner of the room casting weird shadows!!!!! food was so bad that the highlight of the meal was the lemon i started sucking on (+2 stars) very sour but lacked juice. overall, such a scam for your money but it's like one of the only restaurants in the area (middle of nowhere) so yeah.

Kitchen and service are not on restaurant levelS41°34.404' E145°56.073' The author of Lonely Planet was very clear about the on-site Altitude restaurant of the Cradle Mountain hotel: it serves lacklustre food with Fawlty Towers–style levels of service. Our conclusion: avoid it, but the Tavern Bar & Bistro and Highland restaurant at Peppers Cradle Mountain Lodge were closed due to renovation and the Hellyers restaurant at the Cradle Mountain Wilderness Village only accepted bookings from its own guests. Too late to go to the store, so we had to find out if the kitchen and waiters had received the message from Lonely Planet. The Altitude restaurant is split into a buffet and à la carte section. When we arrived on time for our 8pm à la carte reservation, a group of Chinese tourists left the buffet restaurant. The à la carte section has more the interior quality of a restaurant, but the choice of music suits a bar rather than a restaurant. A recurring problem in Australia. We were offered a table in front of a blind wall, while there was enough room for this table in front of a window. In February of 2020, we ordered house made vegan curry with local vegetables, Tasmanian apple chutney and rice (€32) and 200gr Mt Roland eye fillet, broccoli, asparagus, cauliflower purée and red wine jus ($46). We were expecting more than three pieces vegetables and the broccoli was not well cooked. The cauliflower purée tasted excellent. Well done. Not sure about size of the plates. Too big according in our opinion, making the food look small and unimportant. We received good beer advice to match the dishes, but during the main course, the good service collapsed: we were rushed to order the dessert, like the other six tables, because the kitchen was closing. Please, do take 8pm reservations if you cannot give your guests the time to enjoy their main courses. Most guests left without dessert, but we ordered a cheese platter ($21) to evaluate Lonely Planet’s opinion that the Altitude restaurant serves lacklustre food with Fawlty Towers–style levels of service. In our opinion, the quality of the food has improved beyond lacklustre but the service was still Fawlty Towers–style. This restaurant does not operate on the altitude level of proper restaurants.

There are 2 restaurants. The Altitude is the pricey one, the lounge bar is the more affordable one, which we chose. The scotch fillet had a delicious smokey flavour and perfectly tasty, moist and pink inside. The salad was nicely done but the chips could be crispier.

Had dinner in the bar side which is ordering at counter. The savory food was excellent. The fish and chips was generous, the calamari was well cooked and the wedges were crispy and delicious. I was extremely disappointed by the desserts though. They were both tasteless and definitely not worth trying. Otherwise a great place to have a beer after a long day of exploring the National park

One of the worst meals I have ever consumed. I wouldn't even serve this to my dog who thinks Pedigree Pal is good.Service was horrendous, restaurant staff had no structure. We waiting nearly 2 hours to get our main course.Entree: Trout Cake and Salt and Pepper Squid was horrendous, squid was undercooked and chewy. Trout has zero flavour and was a bit of the nose.My partner had the steak, it was below bad pub grub. You could see the Porterhouse has been hit with a mallet to make it more tender and it was still like eating a old rubber boot. By the amount of grissle in the steak it was a very cheap old cow, definitely not a premium cut or age as per their website and menu.I had the Chicken Snitzel, it was well below average and slightly undercooked in place.Overall a horrendous experience which ended up costing $180.My suggestion would be bring some 2minute Noodles and heat them up in your room, you'll have a much better experience.

Stayed at the hotel and had dinner at the restaurant. My husband and I both had the porterhouse steak. Cooked medium and it didn't disappoint. Staff were happy to chat very friendly. Highly recommend if you don't feel like driving anywhere at night. Plus everything is 30 minutes away. Thankyou for a wonderful evening

Friendly staff and good service. Had the buffet breakfast - full buffet costs 27 dollars/ person and a continental only buffet cost 14 dollars/ person. The pastries were delicious. Hash-brown, mushrooms and tomatoes were well made. Worth trying this place for a filling breakfast. The bar definitely deserves 5 starts. Cocktails are really good. Would highly recommend the blueberry mojito!!

This was a nice quiet bar to visit mid-afternoon. There is a nice view from the window seating of the nearby Cradle Mountain-St Clair National Park. The area was clean and tidy so no complaints there.I would come back again.
