The Islander Holiday Resort

Firstly definitely not a hotel! It's more like a B&B arrangement, there's no room service, and you must clean the room once you've finished your stay! Something I wasn't aware of until I arrived here. There's large cleaning charges, such as $30 for any dirty dishes, $30 for dirty fridge's, and $30 for not emptying the rubbish bins, keep in mind no lift accessto the rooms! Thought this was a 4 star hotel! Again a 10am check out time with all these thing's to do, and if your 1hr late they'll sting you a full night's accommodation as penalties! Again how is this a 4 star experience?The next issue I had was the room booked was supposed to be a self contained apartment that can cater for a group or a larger family. However the hot water system was only good for at most 3min showers, with a 15min wait for another 3mins! Not very good for a family let alone a female with long hair like my partner that went for a swim at the beach that day.The rooms are old and outdated maybe on a 3 star level not 4 star, large enough however. Our shower and bathroom was recently renovated, however toilet wasn't renovated and was also very dated.Overall the location is perhaps the saving grace as they're only a short stroll to a lovely Cafe, and the beach. However we will stay elsewhere next time, perhaps the hotel located at said Cafe.Again just to clarify what I expected to get for an advertised 4 star hotel and what we received in reality were chalk and cheese unfortunately, what people ultimately spend all this money to go away and have a relaxing holiday is so we have someone else to do these task for us.... especially when advertised at a 4 star level, I only booked here for the fact it was advertised at the 4 star level, if I wanted 2-3 Star experience where I have to do all my own housework I wouldn't have paid the 4 star price and stayed down the road.

Very clean and spacious apartments with great facilities, beautiful manicured lawns, lovely staff at the front desk who are always keen to please and listen to feedback. I highly recommend the Islander.

A beautiful place! Spacious units. Very well maintained grounds & a great pool. Very helpful manager. We return every year & leave looking forward to our next holiday at The Islander Holiday Resort.

We holiday at the islander at least once a year. Donna and Seamus are wonderful hosts and nothing is ever too difficult. We love the location right across from home beach and the large airy apartments. The tennis court and swimming pool are a wonderful bonus not found elsewhere on the islander. This is the perfect family escape for us!

We love our family holidays at The Islander. The room sizes are huge, plenty of bedding and space for our family to hang out, a fully functional kitchen with everything you need and a beautiful pool and full size tennis court. The grounds are kept perfectly manicured and the pool is cleaned daily. It is honestly the best place to stay when holidaying at ‘Straddie’.

Great place. Prime position, near the beach, pub and shops. Pool, tennis and basketball courts are kept in good condition. Spacious apartment. Quiet and relaxing. Highly recommend.

The location was the only high light.The room were nice and big but in desperate need on a upgrade.The aircon was barely working and no fans or air-conditioning in the living area which meant you spent time in the bedrooms as it was too hot in the lounge room.Sunday at 8am the noise from the gardening wasn't a nice wake up call.They advertise Foxel but only 4 channels.90% of the time none of the channels worked due to weak or no signal.Even thought the place was nicely cleaned the floor/carpet we wouldn't sit on and put a sheet on the faded and bare couch.Once was great and couldn't wait to go back....not anymore.People were lovely.

If you are looking for an affordable holiday with everything at your fingertips look no further.This holiday resort is an absolute gem! Near to everything and thoughtful additions such as:+ tennis court / basketball court+ your very own tennis rackets and balls in your room!+ pool+ short 3-5 min walk to stunning beach+ BBQ area+ facilities in your room to make basic food (eg microwave and convection oven with hot plate)+ Telstra pay phone nearby+ less than 5 mins to cafe; bowling club and excellent restaurant+ short walk to public bus (you don’t need to bring your car!)+ wildlife at your door+ quiet rooms+ washing machineThe resort is family friendly and also that perfect location for a secret getaway (solo or couples).Did I also mention that the staff were not only super friendly, but able to help organise your stay?I’d highly recommend calling ahead and booking direct because the extra help in organising my stay was definitely worth the call!Will I be staying again? 100%Thanks heaps to Donna and your amazing team for making my stay wonderful!

Great price and value for money. Location was great, about a 2 minute walk to Home Beach which is directly across the road, and 5 to 10 minute walk to Cylinder Beach. Quick drive up to Main Beach.We had a 1 bedroom unit and found it had everything we needed. Although the buildings/rooms are older, they are well maintained with new kitchens and nice furniture. It was great having 2 balconies, one off the living area and one off the bedroom.The management were friendly and very helpful in pointing out the best places to go.We didn't think we would use the pool but ended up using it everyday for a quick dip after walking home from a swim at the beach. The pool has a lot of nice banana lounges around, it was nice to sit there with a drink in the afternoon. Barbecue area was excellent too, very easy to use barbecue, easy to clean also.While we were cooking our sausages we actually had 2 kookaburras come and watch us. Then looking up, a kangaroo was about ten metres away through the fence in the surrounding bush land.I think the only thing that would improve the stay would have been a phone in the room (since there is not very good mobile phone reception) and wifi access.We would definitely stay here again.

The Islander is in a wonderful location, with helpful and friendly staff, immaculately kept grounds and laid back, clean, spacious and comfortable units. An incredible experience for us as a large family- thank you to the team!
