Provenance

The food was good, but perhaps didn't warrant $150 a head. Have had on-par dining experiences for $70pp.Also, given the cost of the meal, it would have been nice to be able to sit and enjoy.When 90 minutes lapsed, only then did the server remind us about the sitting time and suggested that we needed to leave shortly. We were relocated to have dessert.To be fair, had the time restriction been communicated effectively, it would have been enjoyable, although perhaps overpriced. Bit disappointing when spending $400+.

Really tasty meals and a wonderful experience all round. A creative Japanese infused menu with fresh local produce. Really pleased to see that they could accommodate and alter the menu to a vegetarian option. However at that price tag, it would have been nice to see slightly bigger portions for some dishes

We had a superb evening at Provenance. The accommodation was perfect and a short walk to the restaurant.Our second dining experience here and it didn’t disappoint!The in room breakfast was really well done, thoughtful and delicious.All in all a 5 star experience..

So wonderful to have a restaurant of such esteem in Beechworth but in my humble option I felt it was a little on the underwhelming side for the price. Having said that there were some highlights - the duck was fabulous, the tempura broccoli was super tasty & I really loved the funky spiralled potato salad. Loved the setting in the old bank with its grand door entrance. Glad we tried it but probably wouldn't do it twice.

I have been to Provenance multiple times over the years, in fact it was my first fine dining/degustation experience, and an unforgettable one at that. Provenance never fails to disappoint, the setting is superb, the Japanese fusion food is incredible, the staff attentive but not obvious or overbearing, the wine list and the staff outstanding with an incredible ability to perfectly match wine and food. Provenance is somewhere I can keep going to year after year, one of my absolute favorites. Thank you to chef/owner Michael Ryan for this remarkable country restaurant.

An underwhelming meal with very average service. I can’t imagine what made this restaurant get not one but two hats. The food was over-salted, flavours crashed, tempura was oily and soggy. Given only a handful of tables were occupied, the service was disinterested and our water glasses often remained empty (which we drained several times because of the salty food), The music was loud and didn’t match the somber decor. The only thing we enjoyed was one of the desserts. Most definitely not worth the price.

We stayed in the Managers Residence which is above the restaurant, and dined last weekend. It was an AWESOME get-away !! The best we have ever had. The accommodation was heritage luxury. The 17 course Japanese inspired food was superb. At times we had the incredible aromas from the kitchen wafting upstairs, mmmm. This is the perfect special occasion romantic adventure. Put it on your bucket list.

One of the best fusion menus I have ever tasted. Each course has great balance, and I particularly liked how Chef Michael did the vegetables :)

What an amazing food experience !!From the moment we arrived until 2.5 hrs later when we left.Greeted at the enormous door and led into a great dinning room. Next to the converted bank vault/cellar.Staff were wonderful in explaining all 18 courses and attentive to our drink needs.The presentation of wonderful colours/textures and flavours was truly amazing.Thankyou to the staff and especially Michael for showcasing the local food and flavours.All six of us had a sensational food experience.If you are in Beechworth, do yourself a favour and enjoy !!

I recently had the misfortune of dining at Provenance, and to put it mildly, it was an utter disappointment from start to finish. I feel compelled to share my experience so that others can avoid this establishment at all costs.Let's start with the service, or lack thereof. The waitstaff at Provenance were not only lousy but also remarkably rude and obnoxious. Their indifference towards customers was evident throughout the evening, as if they couldn't care less about providing even the most basic level of service. It's disheartening when you have to practically beg for attention, or even a simple smile.Moreover, the complete absence of atmosphere in the restaurant was jarring. The ambiance felt cold and sterile, lacking any character or charm. There was no effort made to create a welcoming environment that would enhance the dining experience.Speaking of the food, it was anything but impressive. The dishes were plain and boring, with no creativity or attention to detail. Each bite left me longing for flavor and excitement, but alas, I was met with disappointment at every turn. For the exorbitant price we were charged, I expected a culinary adventure that would leave me speechless. Instead, I found myself in complete shock at the audacity of charging over $1000 for a meal that failed to deliver anything remotely remarkable.In fact, not a single dish managed to wow me. It felt like the chefs had given up on creating something extraordinary and settled for mediocrity. It was evident that they lacked passion and expertise in their craft. I couldn't help but feel like I had been cheated out of a memorable dining experience, leaving me with nothing but regret and a considerably lighter wallet.Given the astronomical price tag and the underwhelming quality of both the food and service, I can confidently say that I will never set foot in Provenance again. Furthermore, I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this restaurant to anyone. There are countless other establishments that offer exceptional cuisine and a genuinely enjoyable dining experience at a fraction of the cost.To sum it up, dining at Provenance was an absolute waste of money. The lousy service, rude waitstaff, lack of atmosphere, and plain, uninspiring food left me feeling cheated and deeply unsatisfied. Save yourself the disappointment and explore other dining options that are worthy of your hard-earned money.
