A kid named Kellen Booth bullied me consistently every day for 5 years, since 2017. He was in my classes, so this made it hard to avoid him.I remember I looked at his girlfriend Kyla Lee" and he told me that he would "make me his lunch" if I looked at her again. The teachers did nothing about it

My child has been at Joseph Banks Secondary College for 4 years. Staff go above and beyond for us and genuinely care about my child. I can not fault the leadership team and all staff members. I have had the pleasure of meeting cleaning and maintence staff, who are friendly and willing to help any way they can. Fantastic facilities for students to access and a wider range of courses that cater to majority of possible career pathways.

I’m a student at the school. Deputy Principal pretends he cares about his students but he probably doesn’t. Teachers are alright but the students are subpar. There have been 10 fights in term 1, something the teachers are denying to my face. The uniform code is strict, to the point where I lose my good standing for wearing a white top and sport shorts. Their excuse is that it would misrepresent the school. But they ignore the issue of students wandering in front of cars when the day ends, and the nearby daycare being vandalised with swastikas, which most likely originated from the students at this school. Not to mention the uniform is expensive and low quality. They see themselves as an above average school, although sirens don’t exist and the students are rowdy. But that’s expected from public schools that dress up as private colleges.

As a student who has been going to this school for the past 3 years now. From my own experience with this school, it isn't a good school at all. There's a lot of bullying in this school, but rarely does any of it get dealt with by the staff. There are lots of fights, a dirty school, and stealing, and it also rarely gets dealt with by most of the staff. There are a few great teachers willing to help students with their problems at school and a few kind students as well. But the majority of them are not good. This school is a bad school, and if I ever had a chance to choose not to attend this school in the first place, knowing what I know now about this school, I would.

Some of the teachers are actually decent. Some of the teachers aren’t. A small amount of the students are well behaved. A large amount of the student aren’t. Teachers do nothing to bullies and encourage you to fix the problem yourself. If someone hits you and you use self defence guess what?, you’re gonna get suspended. Overall the school needs to start expelling students if they want to change the students experiences at the school.

I’m a parent of a student there The receptionist that used to be at senior school reception last year was lovely. The new receptionist (Indian woman) is rude gives you a death stare and doesn’t smile . The other receptionist alongside her was fantastic.

I have been a student at this school since year 8. As I now approach the end of year 12, I would like to share my thoughts. The school has had some ups and downs. However overall, it has been a great experience. The amount of opportunities they offer is amazing and I found myself participating in things I never even knew existed. The teachers and staff are very friendly and approachable. From my experiences, majority of the teachers have been very helpful during my time at the school; and you really get to know the other staff members.Overall, I highly recommend this school. My 4 years here have been a great experience.

I've been in this school for 3 years, this is my fourth. And I would say this is a great school. You hear stories of people in other schools being in lots of fights and cases of bullying. But in this school, you barely hear of it. You may hear different stories from different people but our school does not have a fight everyday like some schools and bullying doesn't last as teachers are very responsive if the students just speak up. In my first two year of highschool there were a few fights that were quite serious and dramatic but the teachers have learnt how to handle it so it's practically unheard of.In terms of education, if students want to learn the aspire class is really worth it. It places students in an environment where they can learn and there isn't drama as everyone in the class is there to learn. Teachers I've had while being in the aspire class, have high expectations which envourages the students to get high grades. For example: I was a C student in primary school but ever since joining aspire class in year 7, I averaged A's. This was because I was surrounded in an atmosphere where I was encouraged to learn and so I did. (The people in the class also helped.) The teachers in the classes may have different teaching strategies that you have to get used to but once you understand their style, it really makes a difference. There are a few things the school needs to improve but if you contact the Principal, Mrs Eleanor Hughes, a deputy Principal or Leading teacher, they are always willing to make improvements. Even if you contact teachers, many are always looking for new ways to help students learn. Teachers at JBSC care about how students are doing. When my brother had to do OLNA, my parents talked to an English teacher who helped him pass by providing extra classes with imput into what he could do.Some other things to be aware of:-JBSC doesn't begin doing exams for students until they reach year 10 which seems like a disadvantage but my brother who’s in year eleven is doing exams and isn't as stressed out for exams as some students at other schools who’ve been doing them since year 7. My Experience with the exams beginning in year ten is that teachers don't add extra stress onto students and so students treat the exam as just a really long test.- Uniform: the teachers are fairly strict about uniform, but getting used to the uniform in highschool makes it easier to dress professionally for part time jobs and jobs students will have in the future. Teachers don't tend to enjoy telling students off about uniform but since it’s part of attending the school students must abide by the uniform code. It's easier for girls as we don't have to tuck in shirts (which is the main issue) but when teachers are spending time telling off students, it takes away some time from the 'good' students being able to learn. All in all, I wouldn't change schools if I had the option, being the school I'm in has helped so much that if I went to another school that I probably wouldn't be at the academic standard that I am at now. Again, if you have any ideas and/or queries, just contact one of the staff and they’ll help you out.
