In the last month while visiting family in Kuranda, me, my husband, and our two young boys have found a local favorite in Maria Gourmet. I had never had Portuguese food before and now I am a huge fan! Everything we have tried here has been delicious - so much so that whenever we discuss going out to grab some food, it’s always at the top of our list. Amazing food, great service…I’m just sad I won’t get my weekly Portuguese tart fix when we go home next month! (But I’m sure we will stop in several times before then!)Highly recommend! ❤️

Found Maria’s on a day trip to Kuranda and I second every other review. There are no words to describe how sensational the custard tarts are. Wish there was an option for an extra star rating as the owners truly deserve it.

A must come if you are travelling/living in cairns. The only restaurant that preserves the original flavors of portugal. We tried the natas(egg tartes) and as i’ve been already in portugal i confirm the quality, absolutely delicious, the flavour brought me back to Portugal! The owners are a super kind couple (one’s portuguese) starting this new business, hopefully will be successful. Definitely i will come back if i will be around cairns again.

Best food in Kuranda. Delicious!! I try the Duck Empadas, absolutely delicious and the Portugues’s tart just backed espectacular!!Nice atmosphere and shade for relaxing at the Kuranda’s Market.

Empanadas and pasteis de nata - all lovingly done with hand made cultured butter pastry. Tucked out of the way from the main strip of Kuranda and worth seeking out. Coffee is also fantastic and perfectly made. Wish the two lovely people running all the success.

Wow, so good we kept ordering more. We shared a duck and a chicken and chorizo empada (small puff pastry pie), two beef croquettes, and the coral bay snapper main with tomato rice and salad.The empadas are so flaky and bursting with flavour, the croquettes are quite filling and have lots of protein inside. The dish was nice and fresh and the rice and salad worked well.For dessert we eat had a gorgeous Portuguese tart and shared a large cappuccino with an extra shot of coffee.
