A lot of room. There were 15 different tents and camps there and we still had lots of room. A few nice shirt walks as well as the major walk up Bogong.Fire pits and tables were very good. Very clean in general.Plenty of flow in the creek but it had been raining a lot recently.

Beautiful campsite with lots of fire pits, drop toilet (bring your own paper) and cool running creek nearby. The bridge is currently being replaced so access to some of the shorter walks is cut off.

Mountain Creek Campground
The Mountain Creek Campsite sits at the base of Mt Bogong, the tallest mountain in Victoria and part of the Victorian High Country. We stayed here in The Rustic Bus, a fully kitted out bus conversion for hire. The campsite is nestled amongst gumtree forests and sits beside the beautiful Mountain Creek that bubbles it’s way down the Bogong Valley to the Kiewa River. You can stay here year round but it does get busy in the school holidays. This site is used as a base camp for the brave hikers that tackle the walk to the top of Mt Bogong. For the more casual walker there’s beautiful short trails and loops along Mountain Creek. For campers there are long drop toilets and fire pits. The site is well maintained and regularly monitored by Parks Victoria staff. It’s safe and welcoming for families and generally has quiet nights due to tired hikers at the end of the day. We stayed here for three nights which gave us plenty of time for exploring. The walk up Mt Bogong cuts through all the different altitude specific vegetation that the high country has to offer. Make your up the 4wd track for 2 km amidst enormous tree ferns and gumtrees before the start of the walking track called The Staircase where you slowly move into alpine snow gums in a steep climb to the mountain hut called ‘Bivouac Hut’ and beyond the hut is the summit. As you leave the tree line there’s a 40 minute walk through the rate alpine meadows to the summit. It’s four hours one way for a medium fitness person so leave early. The view from the top is spectacular.

Clean, quiet, free and overall a fantastic camp ground. Tables and fire pits available. Drop toilets available, with toilet roll. Parking available very close to camping areas. Lovely stream of water running, lots of walking from the camp ground. From easy 800m ferny walks to the bigger 24km loop walks up to Mount Bogong.
