The general manager of cessnock district hospital Ms Jenny Whitting is very caring, understanding, mother figure to every body, she is very good with mental health patients & she accommodates every one needs & brand new 2 operating theatres with all surgery procedure available. The theatre staff are better than maitland hospital operating theatre staff , and John Hunter hospital operating theatre staff are butchersCessnock hospital theatre staff are very nice, and caring make you feel good & comfortable, there is short waiting list for surgery at cessnock hospital well, but since Margaret left the receptionist administration has gone poor & sour greeting unprofessional , the emergency department staff are becoming nasty again, the older nurse become angry & old nasty one from 2010, that have retired but because of covid they are been ask to go back to nurse, some of the local gp run the emergency department eg, Dr khan, Dr meern they can't be trusted in treating patients if you are having probelms with these drs contact your local member of parliament

To be honest I didn't love my first and hopefully only visit due to a very painful injury being the reason of the visit. The staff were fabulous, they looked after me and made sure I was ok.I was very nervous and stressed while there and the staff not once made me feel worse, they kept me calm and fixed up my serious cut on my hand. The staff are professional and this was clear, they also have empathy and can relate to patients. The staff are what made my visit ok and helped me alot. The deserve better working conditions.

Cessnock hospital does a great job for its community, however, the NSW government should seriously consider spending tens or a couple of hundred million dollars upgrading the facility; removing old or unused asbestos-ridden buildings, rejuvenating its greenspace, staff and public car parking area at the rear;- it needs new full-perimeter security fencing and gates (think school examples) for staff security. Expanding its scope of available services. The region is the Hunter Valley Wine industry base, we also have mining, delightful horse creatures, parks, state forests, alien visitations & UAP sightings, nearby military operations, periodic screaming and ranting musicians, theatrical performers, a lone Emu that likes the Greta mine entry on Wollombi Road near the Paxton intersection, - when it decides to make a performance appearance, and a brand new, new-age police station with *real* actual living police officers (no bots or clones, yet)!! Then, we have a nearby local prison (Corrective Services) facility, who's clients, sometimes, need to pay ED a visit, with attached underpaid, hungry, thirsty, slave-guards. General tourism too, so, the hospital is - *critical*!Observation: Far too many people clog hospital ED's with complaints that SHOULD be seen by a GP practice, or via GP Access - after hours - ring during the day or after 5pm to make such an appointment. There are Doctor to the Home" services

Waited with my 10 yr old son for 5.5 hours to see if he had fractured his wrist, only to be told that they couldn't x-ray him because it was after 5pm. We had been there since 1:30pm. Also asked for some simple pain relief form the nurse, had to wait 30mins for her to come out with it. My son was clearly in pain. NOT good enough. Will never go back again. Something needs to change!

Extremely poor service and level for care. Briefly saw my partner and made them wait 3+ hours with bloody wounds and a head injury. Was told a doctor was coming in the next 2 hours, however could not confirm anytime frames. Very concerning for an emergency department.

My son has stage 4 Terminal Prostate Cancer. We went into the hospital around lunch time due to his continuous vomiting and he becoming dehydrated. He was triaged quite quickly and has a Cancer card due to his compromised immune system, and was told he would be admitted fairly quickly. Some hours later he eventually was admitted, he was in immense pain at this time. I was not allowed to see him whilst in the ED so I went home and rang around 6.30 pm and was told he was being discharged and I could collect him. My son walked out into the waiting room with blood pouring down his arm and over his hands, where the Dr had ripped the cannular out of his arm and a band aid placed over the wound. He had not been given any fluids and was severely dehydrated. The discharge papers indicated that he had to go and have ultra sounds and to see his Urologist. It takes months to get an appt with this Specialist. My son stated that the Dr did not listen to anything that he said of his current treatments etc.On getting him home I removed the band aid and have aligned the skin tears from the cannula and steri striped and dressed the site to avoid infection. The nurses were lovely but this Dr should be reprimanded for his inaction and lack of care. We wont be going back to Cessnock Hospital again and if my son requires further care i will drive him to the Mater instead.Previously to this my son had an inner thigh abscess and again we waited so long that I eventually told the triage nurse I was taking him to the Mater. He was admitted straight away and had surgery to lance and drain the abscess and placed on IV antibiotics and stayed in hospital for 3 days.I know as a smaller hospital you get busy but the lack of care from this Dr was unacceptable. As a former Nurse i was disgusted with his treatment and the way he was discharged with blood pouring down his arm and a wound that could easily have become infected and still possibly could

Been waiting for 2 and a half hours already only just to find out they had no doctor on duty throughout the day and will be atleast an hour for him to catch up and start helping people in the waiting room. Asked for panadol or neurofen twice and 20 mins later still don't even know if I'm getting it. Finally got some half an hour later. People are giving up and walking out before being seen too. After 4 hours waiting with still no treatment I've watched more people walk out then actually get treated. Watched a nurse laugh when told someone left to call an ambulance because they thought it would get quicker treatment and still have atleast 3 people in front of me that have been here longer. This health system is a pathetic joke. I watched two people Infront of me being told they would get seen in 10mins still waiting to be seen 2 hours later. Two different times nurses went to check on something saying they would be a sec to have people still standing around 15mins waiting for answers. 5 hours later still no treatment. Ended up waiting for 5 and a half hours to barely get looked at and given antibiotics and sent home
