An interesting part of Australian history. The audio tours are a bit long winded and quickly get boring the house itself is somewhat well kept. I really didn't like the 40s-70s decor looked bad. The gardens really could do with a spruce up. Good to see lake with some water it. Worth a detour maybe could do with some more love.

We got here just past 3pm and while our time spent here was only short, it was well worth the trip! We only wish we were a bit more organised and had gotten here earlier!! The grounds were beautiful and gave a really nice glimpse of what life was like about 150 years ago. Some tips we wish we knew beforehand:1. We visited Friday 22nd April, 2022. At this point in time, if you wish to actually enter the house itself, you will require an audio guide and key from Balranald Info Centre (about 8-10 mins drive away). See the attached picture for more details. The NSW National Parks website may say the audio guide and key is located in the Yanga office, but that is currently closed due to Covid. You are still able to wander around the grounds if you weren't able to get the key in time (like us!).There is a museum room towards the front of the property which is open to all. It houses some great artefacts and really interesting photos through the times of the Yanga homestead.2. If you're looking to go to the Red Gum Bird Hideout, I do believe this can only be accessed via the Lake Loop Track (entered from within the homestead grounds). All in all, it was a great attraction which we would recommend to everyone.

Offering magnificent lake views on 3 sides, this is the perfect place for your BYO picnic. Sadly the homestead itself is in need of some t-l-c; however, one can appreciate the grand country style its former occupants may have enjoyed.

We had a quick look in the afternoon and intended returning in the morning for a self-guided tour, but the road was closed due to rain.

Very beautiful house and lake. Take the walking trail after you're done visiting the buildings, it's not too long and you can get closer to the lakeside.

Spent a lovely, mid, morning out at the homestead today. $25 for an access key to the locked exhibits and an audio guide device, available from the Balranald Discovery Centre or in our case the local caravan park. The information is quite informative. You can just go and do a walk aroundfor free but I think you'd miss out on some of the information.A word of caution though... Access to the main household, for which we had a key, was locked with a sign stating for audio and key holders to ring the ranger, number supplied, and they would come and give us access (doesn't make sense if you already have a key, anyway). The problem was we couldn't get a phone signal hence we were unable to contact the ranger to gain access. Could be a problem for some..We enjoyed what we could see anyway...

Very interesting to see. We walked around the place on our own time looking through the windows, so we did manage to see most of it without needing to go into the house itself. The back fruit garden had fruit trees all in fruit. It was good to see. Very good views of the lake from here. Very rustic.
