The National Golf Club - Long Island
I’ve been a member of the National for 4 years and live in Melbourne. Although I fell in love with the Cape Schanck courses and facilities I only started to really appreciate Long Island recently.A recent round confirmed that this place is indeed a gem. The fairways were in superb condition and the green complexes were also brilliant and quite unique to play on - spongy but very fast.Long Island is tougher than it looks and requires accuracy particularly in your medium and short irons. Your bunker play also needs to be dialled in as most greens are heavily protected. The back to back par 5s on the front nine are a highlight as are several long, sweeping par fours.A major redevelopment of the site will commence shortly and when that’s completed it should be world class.

Long Island Country Club is another in a splendid collection of classic Melbourne sandbelt courses, with gentle undulations and tree-lined fairways creating a very attractive parkland golfing environment. With bunkering that is solid (and not overdone), greens that are well-paced (and not lightning fast), and reasonably generous width fairways, this is a course where you can enjoy a good round of golf, without feeling unduly pressured or punished.

Deplorable inaction on litter that has been accumulating over a substantial time period. Despite being informed in Jan 2018 and again in August 2018, this area continues to be unbelievably shocking. Looks beautiful, well maintained course yet they refuse to lift a finger or make a phone call to VicRoads. They obviously think these images are acceptable, perhaps they are hoping it will blow into our bay

A great place to play golf and wonderful being away from the muddy clay of Melbourne in the wet, winter weather. I believe it's about to close for two years for a complete revamp. It will undoubtedly be excellent then!Lunch was delicious!
