Absolute hidden treasure (though fast losing its secrecy it seems). A 4WD or off-road capable SUV is a must, otherwise it's a lengthy walk from the end of the gravel road (where you can leave your car) along the track to the cave area. My 2005 Rav4 made it easily though I levelled out the soft sand mound between the tyre tracks in some stretches with my undercarriage (disconcerting but not problematic). Much of the track is soft sand (so if you're nervous bring recovery boards &/or let your tyres down) but there are also some sections of rock to navigate carefully, though nothing too hard. You arrive at the first of 2 carparks - each at either end of the cave tunnel - so park at either one. Both have a toilet (new composting type slightly better than the old drop-dunnnies), info boards & picnic tables. Between the carparks is an above ground walk trail, so if you don't want to go underground there's plenty of trails to find wildflowers (in season) galore, birds & other wildlife. If there is water around then be prepared to get your feet wet as the creek runs right through the tunnel. I was barefoot the whole time underground, though it would be wise to carry decent shoes for when you're out (especially if snakes are about). TAKE A DECENT TORCH!!! It is pitch-black down there & you're phone's light doesn't help you much. Headtorches (good quality ones with a decent 'spot' light range) are excellent for those willing to climb into some of the narrower tunnel offshoots, otherwise a powerful spotlight or floodlight will suffice. The tunnel itself is huge - you could have a 2-lane road through it - & one direction (other than for the more adventurous the small offshoots that you have to climb up to from the tunnel floor) so you're not going to get lost.

I am very happy we found a pamphlet for Stockyard Gully Caves at our accommodation. I did not know they existed.4 wheel drive is required to access.Self guided cave entry and no charges to access this awesome place.Wear suitable shoes, take water and some decent torches. Our head torches were not suitable which meant we could not explore far into the cave system. We will be back with bigger and brighter torches.Pristine environment and location.

Really beautiful walk down to cave, definitely need water and torches.10km of gravel road, followed by 5km of Sandy paths that would definitely suit 4wD.Enjoyed our arvo there even tho we were unprepared!

Could do with better signage when doing the 1.3km loop walk. Otherwise, it was pretty cool literally. Whilst it was stifling hot outside, it was a welcome relief entering the cave where the temperature was so nice.Make sure you bring a torch as your phone light isn't sufficient enough.

Took the south entry going in and out. Gravel track most of the way then turns to sand. Very deep rutted puddles that come up past the doors. Don’t recommend driving to the caves in a smaller car when it rains. Cave was Awsome even though it was shin deep with water. Not child friendly when it rains. Lots of bees, bats and lovely bush

Worth the drive out to Stockyard Gully Caves if you have a 4WD capable vehicle and equipment to drop your tyre pressures and inflate again. On advice from a neighbour we didn't drop our pressures and on the way back got bogged due to the track behind cut up from the public holiday weekend. Would recommend dropping tyre pressures as it would have got us through without bogging.Park at the first carpark as you complete the sandy track entrance, as the second car park leads to a more challenging climb over uneven rocks, especially if not prepared with the right footwear or visiting with elderly or kids.Bring good torches or portable work light as mobile phone torches will struggle in the vast darkness at the middle of the cave.Beautiful walk through the cave itself and would highly recommend if passing through this area.
