Adelaide Koala Rescue (AKR)

I have been volunteering at Adelaide Koala Rescue since the 2019 Adelaide bush fires. I feel fortunate to be part of such a wonderful, caring organisation, who together with the support of vets, vet nurses, rescue crew, browse team and clinic volunteers care for and help in the rehabilitation of sick and injured koalas, as well as other wildlife that come their way.Thank you Adelaide Koala Rescue for your time and commitment in providing this essential service for our beautiful koalas and wildlife.

I have been very lucky to volunteer at AKR since February 2020. The dedication, commitment, and compassion the team show is truly inspiring. True professionals, from management, to the extremely dedicated Vet staff. South Australia should be extremely proud of this outfit. Friendly professional call centre receptionist. Jane was friendly and professional and arrived promptly and retrieved the sick Koala this morning. Well done.

Reported a Koala that had been hit by a car. Koala rescue had a very rapid response. The team came out and took the poor little bugga to the vet within 30 mins. A+++

The wonderful service that Jane and her team of volunteers provide through Adelaide Koala Rescue is so appreciated, and we are lucky to have such a dedicated team working across the Adelaide Hills and beyond to help out injured koalas. When I found an injured koala recently it was so easy to find Jane's number (I rang her straight from her instagram account) and help was there very quickly. Thank you for all that you do Adelaide Koala Rescue!

I volunteered with AKR for 8 days over the Christmas period to help rescue the koalas during the fires. Jane and Vanessa are absolutely amazing. The triage centre was set up very well and all animals received the care that they needed. Whether it was time spent cleaning cages or out rescuing burnt koalas, our time was always well used by the team. The knowledge of this team was incredible and the vets and nurses were brilliant with each animal. Fully recommend Adelaide Koala Rescue.

We found a little 'out of sorts' possum on O'Connell Street, North Adelaide today and just felt things weren't as they should be. We contacted Adelaide Koala Rescue knowing that they are quick to respond, have the experience and the knowledge built up from many years of caring for our local wildlife. Not only koalas but they will assist with all native animals that find themselves in trouble, and importantly need their health/welfare assessed for rehabilitation or medical intervention. Their network of carers is fantastic, they were so quick to attend and very supportive.

Just the best ever. I have worked many hours at the centre and have seen all the love and care for the Koalas. Paradise had air conditioning so what is that post about. There have been over 300 koalas through the centre and so many have been released. Just the best to watch them get better over the weeks and then have the pleasure to release them back to their homes. They moved to a more permanent site where they could and have put up many outside secure pens for the Koalas all with tree branches and lovely places for Koalas to sit whilst they eat. The Koalas get fresh browse every 3 to 4 hours and all the volunteers clean the pens every 4 to 5 hours. Every shift I have done has had vets and vet nurses there and many volunteers that all work together to look after and care for the Koalas. I love what they all have achieved in such a short time and so happy that we all worked together to get such a well run and caring community and that they now have a home so they can look after any koalas not just the bushfire ones. AKR you rock and thank you for all you have done so far and look forward to many more hours helping the koalas with you
