Gallery 127

I visited Gallery 127 in Avoca recently with a group of 20 and we were all totally impressed by this hidden station of creativity. The heritage listed train station dates back to 1876, but the gallery only opened in 2017 and supports local artists with several exhibition rooms. The gallery presents regular exhibitions of paintings, photos, sculptures, mosaics, needlecraft and more. There is also an interesting history room. We were very lucky to meet the very talented fabric artist, quilter Jenny Bacon. Jenny’s exhibition “Colouring the Land” was open and it was exquisite, featuring Australian landscapes as they generate over time and in changing conditions - all in patchwork! We were blown away with the expertise and detail in Jenny’s work. This exhibition continues until May 27, 2019.Gallery 127 is housed in the refurbished Avoca Train Station with 7 acres to develop including a grain silo which will also become an art feature with projections due to brighten the night sky. Live music, poetry and workshops are encouraged and welcome in this inclusive space. I can’t wait to return later this year to see how the garden is progressing. The gallery and bathrooms are wheelchair accessible

The old Avoca railway station is a warm and welcoming art space which houses many desirable art works. I have enjoyed visiting when I am in Avoca as there is always something new to see with quite diverse exhibitions happening regularly.

Our lovely art gallery displays the works of the locals from the Pyrenees region..Drive through town from Ballarat direction, turn right up York Ave. All sign posted. Open Friday to Sunday, 11am to 4pm.

The Avoca art gallery is a step back in time, unique in its own way. Each month there is a new artist displaying their art, each unique in their own way. On the open days refreshments are available with a rundown of how we got our name and Hugh will also highlight the barking owl silo which lights up at night. Looking to get a cafe up and running again. Donations are need to keep us going. Future plans are also being made to improve the gallery and surrounds.
