風月堂 Savoy Cake Burwood

Haven’t had the taro cake for a long time and it’s still very good.

The cake produced in this shop is totally different from the one we used to have in Hay Market. The cakes in Burwood shop is so dry and the cream in the swiss roll is ridiculously thin. All swiss rolls have very strong of raw flour in them. So unrecommended.

Bought 2 bags of pineapple cake (8 pieces) on 17/04/2022. A few cakes in one bag are hard to eat. There is no production or expiry date label. It is not cheap, $15 for just small 8 cakes with size like a mahjong.

Savoy makes the nicest taro cake. The cake tasted fresh, light, and moreish. It isn't too sweet and there's bits of real taro. The cream has a real dairy taste to it, it's not the usual Asian cream. (Small is $31). Appearance wise it's nothing to rave about. In the past, the taro taste is more flavoursome - but this is still a good cake.Pineapple tarts ($14 for 10 pcs) is also very nice, it's isn't too dry/sweet/ doesn't use too much pastry. The filling is very fragrant.

Tried the famous taro cake, 6 inch for only $27. You can definitely taste taro chunks inside but you just cannot get much flavours of taro itself.

My family have been buying cakes from Savoy for more than 20 years, especially the Taro cake and egg rolls. The Taro Cake and Egg rolls which I recommend, has consistent quality and taste. These are our family favorites.Yesterday was the first time I was disappointed as the pineapple cakes (twin pack) had a slight off smell and taste which I had to throw out. There were no best before date on the package so I couldn't check if the date was expired or not. As I had to rush off to a meeting I couldn't go back to Savoy to let them try it.I feel that it would be good to have a best before date and list of ingredients and allergens sticker on the package.

You can’t go wrong with Savoy’s signature taro cake. Its fresh and light, not too sweet. I could eat a whole one myself!

Ordered a taro cake for my family after reading the reviews of this place. Although the cake was a little bit unconvincing at first sight due to the thick layer of cream on it, I was amazed at the simplicity and the quality of the cake. The taste of the cake was delicious and simple, while the sweetness was just right. Highly recommended to those who enjoy Asian style cakes.

I had my birthday cake ordered at Savoy. My husband ordered the Taro Cake which cost about $43 for an 8 inches cake. The cake was moist and fresh and not too sweet for an Asian palate. We couldn't be more pleased with our purchase. Can't wait for the next birthday and for more cake.

Best Taro Cake ever!! The lady at the shop is always lovely too.
