Cafe looked lovely and menu sounded great. We got seated but ended up waiting 15mins and no one took our order. Other people were seated after us and orders taken. We tried to get their attention but were ignored. When we got up and left one of the waitresses just looked at us and then cleaned the table. Poor service , not really acceptable with many other cafe to go to in the area who are also looking for business

I hope it was just a fiction of my imagination and not the reality of my experience. Came to this cafe with two other friends for a catch up after not seeing each other for yonks. The girl who waited on us was alright but not warm and welcoming. Second lady that took our orders had a smile.We arrived at 2.15pm and were told that the kitchen closes at 2.30pm and the venue closes at 4pm. Which was fine. But around 3.20pm, they blasted the music really loudly whereby no conversations could be had. Was that a blatant attempt to shoo us out? A simple we are closing up" would suffice. And 5 minutes later

Egg rolls here means scrambled eggs in a bun- like a scrambled egg burger.Very good scrambled eggs, not dry or overcooked with whatever else you’d like to add.One order- added hash brown and sausage, another order- hash brown, sausage and halloumi.Note- sausage is a flattened roll like patty and not a round burger patty.Went down like a treat.Thought it may not be enough, so we ordered a side of French fries, surprisingly deceiving- there was no need for the fries. The burger alone was enough.Good coffee, good service, no complaints.

The avocado toast- the bread was extra toasted and was super dry, difficult to eat. The egg was cold and in general the taste wasn’t a good match. It also does not worth the price.This is second time I have such an experience with this cafe, different food though.This 2 star is only for the nice welcoming staff.

Proper & Son is a trendy cafe in the food court at the back of South Melbourne Market. The Famous Egg Rolls on the menu are nice and a good option for lunch, if you're considering a bit different.I tried the Egg Roll with bacon and hash brown, which was nice and very filling. The Egg was scrambled to perfection. There are other options for the egg roll and you can choose other fillings like a sausage pattie or haloumi.

Situated in the corner of the south Melbourne market, it offers modern quirky cuisine. We went for brunch before wondering the market, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We had the coconut bread with ricotta and scrambled eggs on toast with a side of smoked salmon. Both were tasty and enjoyable. The coconut bread was a little dry but still tasty. The coffee was really good, strong and hot. Two skinny lattes hit the spot. We were walk in guests and got a table pretty rapidly, and the staff were very attentive. Good spot for brunch

I thought I'd give them a 5-star. Love the vibe here and the overall decor. Bright and airy, very casual and makes me feel relax. Service is prompt, the waitress is cool and the food is great. The coffee is from Toby estate and for those who are in for a quick bite, they have plenty of takeaway pastries to choose from. Definitely recommend you to come here for a coffee or brunch!
