Highlights for me were the charcoal chicken with sticky rice, betel leaf beef and beef tamarind salad. Everything else was pretty average, disappointed by the thit kho being too salty and small portions for the price, and fried flounder was dryHowever service was quite poor (the young tall boy with mullet looked like he didn't want to be there) and nobody bothered to remove plates as we finished despite all the food we ordered (so our table got unnecessarily full). Took 1 hour for our fish/veggie hotpot and our crunchy rice to come out

Went for dinner on Monday with my friends and all the flavours were really well balanced, we especially loved the Vietnamese sour soup with prawns! The desserts size is very generous, we're so full by the end.

(4.5 stars)Sydney threw a curve ball at my open-air Saigon-style dining experience at Hai Au Lang Nuong. As we arrived in Canley Vale to music blaring and shuttered windows rolled open for diners to take in the busy streetscape, a storm of epic proportions rolled in. As staff scrambled to close windows, battling damaging winds, we barely looked up from the colourful menu: utterly captivated by the array of grill-focused Vietnamese dishes on offer. We were seated in the rear of the second floor, just down from the dumbwaiter. Without being rude, staff managed to convey that tables of two are somewhat frowned upon. After struggling to narrow the ‘Chefs Special Grilled Perfection’ menu down to the number of dishes two people could reasonably consume, I could see why larger groups are the way to visit.Starting on familiar territory, we bundled little fingers of betel leaf-wrapped lemongrass and black pepper beef—bo la lap noon than ($40)—into rice paper rolls with vermicelli noodles and a cornucopia of greens and pickled vegetables. Street-style seafood grills, like cockles sautéed with tamarind, shallots and chilli sauce then topped with peanuts—so long xao me ($40)—are so good, they’re hard to tear yourself away from. Ordering them also won us points with the floor staff, who after enquiring whether we liked them, encouraged us to stop and eat the disc of crispy crackling clay pot rice—com chay ($10)—before it got cold. There was no such worry with the goi dua bon bon tom thit ($40), a tasty pork and prawn salad made more substantial with pickled bullbrush root. Served on rice crackers, it’s actually the tastiest version of this dish I have ever eaten. With thermoses of hot tea on each of the long tables surrounded by white plastic chairs, you don’t really need to order drinks, but the chanh day ($8) passionfruit drink is bright, fresh and acidic, a small range of mainstream beers are cold and refreshing ($7/each) and you can also BYO. Food for thought for next time—and there will be a next time—in this crazy, riotous, delightful space.

Very authentic Vietnamese food. The fish steamboat was very flavorsome, goes very well with rice. Just pour the sweet sour soup from the steamboat straight on to rice, it is just magnificent.Downstairs sometimes has very loud music going, if you are not a fan of music, ask for a table upstairs.

What an interesting experience. It's like visiting an eclectic museum and a restaurant at the same time. There is so much kitsch everywhere. You can I uld spend hours trying to see it all from the Vietnamese transport bicycles to spoon collections to plants shaped like fans. We ate a combination roll your own rice paper rolls with bamboo prawn sticks, beef wrapped in betel leaf, and some other sides. It was really good. I confirmed that I am hopeless at making my own but really good at eating them. We ran out of pork and asked for more. We got a decent amount for five dollars. We also tried the passionfruit drink, which was really good. I'd highly recommend this place for the atmosphere, great food and for the very good service. Staff were very attentive and accommodating.

Very busy and popular restaurant, but the waiting time not very long, they cater for large groups.Their menu is massive and the food was deliciously I highly recommend bò lá lốp (very addictive but expensive) and making rice paper rolls with the minced prawn in sugar cane!Service was ok, since it is a busy restaurant I understand. Very family friendly and fun karaoke with music blasting, where the kids like to run around upstairs.Although… finding parking is the worst, all I can say is good luck.

Been wanting to try this eatery for a while now and we finally made it. Restaurant's decor is really quirky. We weren't too adventurous with our orders. We had the pork chop rice,a combination vermicelli salad and spring rolls. Interesting that the spring rolls were half length wise and fried. The pork chop was splendid and the grilled meat in the vermicelli salad was smoky n delicious. Their Vietnamese iced coffees were the best we ever had. Strong and sweet.
