Sandgate Chinese Restaurant

Just nice, small town Chinese food.We used to come here as a children 25 years ago and were delighted that the food was still as delicious as nostalgia made it out to be, especially the BBQ pork with pineapple.Unsure what the expectations of the low ratings are. Felt great waking up in the morning, too!

If you want instant food poisoning this is the place to go, second time trying this place and it was even worse than the first time. Combination soup was super thick and gluggy (who knows how old it was) and the Mongolian beef was white and tasted like nothing…It’s been 30+mins since I’ve eaten and now my stomach is cramping like no tomorrow and I’m unwell.Don’t go here!

$25 minimum to use EFTPOS, food was bland, this was my second and last time giving this place a go…I saw your signs, luckily I had cash on me, otherwise I would have cancelled my order. I wanted to warn people of the EFTPOS limit and give you the feedback that most people pass the EFTPOS fee onto their customers if under a certain amount or drop it completely for a better customer experience

Ordered the special fried rice which was actually pretty good. Although I've never had sliced ham in a fried rice before.The Mongolian beef was not what I expected. Most other Chinese restaurants will include it with noodles and veggies. This was 70/30 Onions and sauce with a little beef. Quite odd

First time today and I’ll definitely be a regular. The food was amazing and the best Chinese we’ve ever had. Ordered the chicken cashew and sweet and sour pork! The owner was so funny and friendly. So impressed.

**** Last time I tried to order from here in Jan 2023 the restaurant was closed completely ‘due to a family emergency’ and there wasn’t any info on when they may reopen. Can anyone confirm this place has reopened? ****When it comes to getting Chinese for dinner, this IS the ‘go to’ restaurant for my family for well over 20 years now (including all my extended family that live locally as well). Even when I moved closer to the CBD several years ago now, and after giving my local Chinese restaurants a go, I was disappointed to find that all the dishes I love never came close to being as good as they are from here! :D So now, when it comes to Chinese night (which unfortunately isn’t all that often) I will literally drive all the way to Sandgate and back simply to have the best,Over the years as a family we have to have tried many of the dishes on the menu and never had an issue (maybe apart from wait times occasionally) but all in all I can very much vouch for the sweet and sour pork (one of the only restaurants I’ve found that actually serves their pork in the sauce, not separately), the beef and black bean sauce, the lemon chicken and also their honey chicken. The honey chicken they do a bit differently where it’s more like a crumbed breast of chicken cut into many strips with the chicken swimming in lovely honey sauce and also served in top of those fried noodles. The special fried rice is also heaven! To me one of their most tasty offerings are their vegetarian spring rolls for entree which have this flavour to them I’ve never tasted before in any other spring roll, but I love it!Ok, so the restaurant isn’t much to look at, is maybe kind of small quite warm inside, and I’ve never really wished to dine in, always opting for take away, so you wouldn’t automatically look at this restaurant and think “awesome Chinese food” but it is awesome, like a hidden gem hole in the wall restaurant :) And as they can be quite popular, especially around certain events and holidays, it’s always best if phone in your order a good 30 mins+ ahead of time. Best. Chinese. Ever!

I am more Chinese than this place. It was absolutely the worst Chinese we have ever had, the processed sliced ham on top of the combination fried rice looked like it had been prepared by a 2 year old. Never had spring rolls served without any sauce! We ordered 5 meals they all ended up in the bin. Would not recommend.

We have enjoyed the food from Sandgate Chinese for more them 25 years. The food is always great and Tim the owner always greets us with a friendly smile and kind words. Even though we moved to the Sunshine Coast in recent years, we still make Sandgate Chinese a mandatory visit whenever we are in the area.

The first time I have been there and the man at the counter tried to rip me off $10 and the honey chicken was really dry and no flavour won’t be going back there ever again
