An expensive experience here. Took my old tractor in for work on the hydraulic pump. Was quoted (verbally unfortunately) $2k to $2.5k to fix, which included a new pump. Had the guys just remove the pump, then had it reconditioned elsewhere much cheaper than new. Refitted but Bates and still charged $2k. Overall cost ($3k) much higher than expected. Took 3 times longer to fix than it should (more than 25 hours work time on the machine). Included a build and re-dismantle as the first build did not work. Was charged for 15 hours work, I have been told it should have been 7 hours max by another very experienced mechanic. Was told by Bates the hourly rate was $105 (which is very reasonable) but then charged $121/hour. So not very happy, feeling overcharged by several hundred dollars.The pump is now working, albeit there is now an oil leak on the top plate.They did supply at no cost after the fact, a chain kit to keep the three point linkage elevated when the backhoe is attached. Without this the pump activates the pressure relief valve, vibrates the machine and makes a terrible noise.As said overall not very happy, will shop elsewhere in future. There are other choices in Strath.

Thanks to Ben, Jack and Rodney for a good service, re prime, recharge and fuse replacement on our Blue Diamond generator. I couldn't find the faulty fuse and Ben quickly fixed and had running at a good price.
