Specialist Mind Care

I have a serious mental illness, and went to Dr Brand hoping for understanding and empathy. I got told I was in the too hard basket, and there was nothing they could do for me. Admittedly I employed my bad coping mechanisms when questioned by them, but thats what I wanted help with. It was if they expected me to give perfectly reasonable normal person answers to their questions. That was never going to happen, but they told me to go away and not waste their time.I strongly recommend mentally ill people look somewhere else for help and understanding.

I agree guys. If a problem is too hard they dump you like rubbish. These doctors" care more about money than patient care. If you are in need of proper treatment

I and my son have been waiting 4 months to get in and see Dr Brand as we heard she was the best in Hervey Bay.Finally my son's appt day came and we finally met Dr Brand who seemed nice..After about a 20 min talk she informed my son that she would except him as a patient but he needed to be off the mental health act to do so..She advised us she believed he wasn't on the right medication and even incorrect CMH Diagnosis...We left feeling assured we had the right information and that my son finally found a great psychiatrist who he would see on a monthly basis..A week later we are being rold by another agency that Dr Brand cannot treat my son because he is in the too hard basket..I wasn't even notified by specialist mind care that this was the outcome...Oh my god...Why give any advice at all..I and my son listened to Dr Brands recommendations and then for her to renege on my son's future treatment discussions.This is disgusting behaviour...You do not tell a mentally ill person that you will treat them and then find it all too hard...I and many veterans live in Hervey Bay and we all have complex long term mental health issues.I will say to any veteran I wouldn't bother going to spacialist mindcare if they cant be bothered to help a 19yr out with a few issues....No DVA funds coming your way if you cannot treat complex mental health issues.Specialist mind care has just wasted 6 months of my son's time..

I have been a patient of one of the practitioners for over six years at a different clinic. I forward a referral, which I was told first up couldn’t be found. I called and was put on a list for an appointment for at least 1 month away. I just received another call to make an appointment, from Julie. She asked if I’d like to do this and whilst advising me of fees for “first” consultation was LAUGHING. OVER $100 ($50 back) ! why? After six years? She went away to “check” and told me “””that is the new policy”””. I feel sorry for all other patients having to contend with this. Trying to explain what’s happened over 6years to another professional is horrendous .... my son is in the same boat.....trying to take care of mental health is ALWAYS blocked by a brick wall made of $$$$$$.

Great Psychiatrist, wonderful and warm experience from start to finish. Appreciate Dr. Brand taking time to go over the diagnosis clearly and treatment options. Was referred over by my solicitor and can see why. Highly recommended.

So contrary to the other reviews here, I have had pretty good experiences at this clinic so far. Although granted that I do not see Dr Brand, but instead see the nurse practitioner, Jenny. She is a really lovely person and is really a jack-of-all-trades for mental health stuff. She is very well-educated and very experienced in the field, and I feel like I'm being understood when I see her. Highly recommend, but I am giving this 3 stars instead of 5 due to the fact that I have heard stories about Dr Brand from people I know who've seen her and have heard similar things to the reviews on here, but I highly highly recommend Jenny 100%.

In 2020 I asked to change from Xanax to Valium, which was allowed by Dr Brand.. Asked to ween my valium faster, asked to change my antipsychotics, was told no, refused multiple phone calls requesting medicine change, I went in there with a panic attack asking to have my antipsychotics reassessed and was asked to leave the clinic. Dr Brand is negligent, I had to quit valium with no assistance and just deal with the withdrawals. Highly recommended another, ANY other psychiatric facility

Well worth the wait, and now I understand why.Elnika and Mel not only heard me, they listened and how refreshing that was after 30 odd years of therapy.Early days yet and will post further, throughout my journey, alongside (first time I truely feel comfortable to use the word ‘alongside’ ) these professionals.

My experience with all the Specialist's at S.M.K. has been nothing but first rate care. I feel extremely privileged to have found a Mental health clinic, that has met all my needs and done so in the highest standard.
